I love when people make Saban comparisons. It’s hilarious

with an injury riddled defense and a terrible backup QB and was a hail mary away from winning the west yet again

Saban had a SEC title in his second year.

..and one of our conference wins was a ridiculous Hail Mary at Kentucky.

Jesus Christ. The obsession with somehow showing that inferior coaches are equivalent to Saban, arguably the greatest coach ever.

Yes, he went 8-5 in his third year. One year after winning the SEC, one year before winning the NC.

Has Kelly won the SEC? Will he win the NC next year? If so, I'm sure everyone will forgive him this season.

How long did it take Saban to win a Natty at LSU or Alabama?

Even Orgeron beat three potential National Champions, Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson on the way to the Championship, in his third season.

You're right. Not much difference in their first 3 seasons. I was gonna rip this comparison but actually 2020/2021 weren't crazy different than 98/99 either. I still think it's a different time with different resources and expectations but I also think people's hatred of BK is very unwarranted. It's okay to say he's left a little to be desired and needs to improve moving forward but that should be the extent of the criticism.

With NIL, coaches are able to turn teams around faster than back then. I hope Kelly can, but have no confidence that it will happen.

Comparatively, I believe DiNardo left LSU with more talent on the roster for Saban than what Orgeron did after his two year bender following the 2019 NC.

Portal transfers can help fill in the gaps, but you cannot build your roster with it every year. The core group has to come from HS recruiting.

Saban retired from Alabama because he saw the difficulty in roster management in this new NIL era.

Because Mauck got hurt late vs Florida. We're likely in Atlanta 3 years in a row if he doesn't.

We lost starting QB, and then James at safety who was doing a good job at the time which effected the defense a lot. Saban usually has a good safety or two helping to communicate and/or make calls on the field. James was doing this before he got kicked off team.

The development of that WR into a safety for 2003 was an underrated key part of that 2003 defense. The one game he missed during 2003 was the Florida loss.

He was just starting to put things together. We had zero experience behind him.

So what. CBK sucks.

I hope he does better in years 4-5 than he's done so far.

It probably helps to have a team with the bulk of its eligible scholarship players returning, most of which you helped recruit as a starting point.

Kelly had an SEC-West title his first year and beat Saban. Every year is different and every team is different. Kelly knows he needs to produce.

The other coaches have that same “advantage” so it’s not really an advantage.
