Portal transfers can help fill in the gaps, but you cannot build your roster with it every year. The core group has to come from HS recruiting.

Yeah until they transfer

this argument is stupid as hell. Transfers are just as good.

Saban inherited shite. Kelly inherited a top tier program.

This seems like a strained attempt to defend BK's slop.

2002 was Saban's 9th season as a HC. 2024 was was BK's 34th.

Mauck was injured during the UF game. We were 5-1 then. So what do you think our record would be had Nuss went down after game #6 this year?

People need to go check their LSU sports history .The tigers won the
natty in NSs 3rd season not his 4th.In NSs 4th yr he went 8-4 or 5.So in reality his team took a step back his 4th season.Of coarse he left LES a
gold mine of talent who proceeded to find a way to lose 2 games a yr with an
NFL talented squad.

Different era. No longer the same game.

Different? Of course it is. But is it easier to win, or harder?

I personally think it’s much harder today.

with an injury riddled defense and a terrible backup QB and was a hail mary away from winning the west yet again

As opposed to an injury riddled defense and terrible backup OGs and giving up 7 sacks against Florida away from making the SECCG again?

ETA: It was actually both OGs that were out for at least some part of the UF game.

About the same as it was with Dellinger going down when LSU was 6-1 this year.

With NIL, coaches are able to turn teams around faster than back then. I hope Kelly can, but have no confidence that it will happen.

What programs have been turned around faster in the NIL era that was sustained? Harbaugh won in Year 8. Swinney in Year 7. Smart in Year 6.

So you think losing a LG is equivalent to losing a QB? You may be alone on that.

Cool stat. That was 20 years ago. It’s irrelevant to today so I’m not sure why you startedthis thread.

I love when people make Saban comparisons. It’s hilarious

You know why it is? Saban had far more talent on his roster when he started here. That is a fact.

The obsession with somehow showing that inferior coaches are equivalent to Saban, arguably the greatest coach ever.

Did he start in a better position talent wise? What about recruiting advantage he had then here? Dinardo recruited well for Mr Saban. Kelly had to rebuild from scratch. It was as bad as it could get.

Wrong. You can’t learn it in a day. These kids are not professionals. Even they have to get adjusted. You see it all the time in the NFL.

that was BOTH GUARDS out. Frazier and Dellinger. Or was it a back-up to a back-up

The question is the marginal impact it made on the specific teams, not some generic average impact. Losing Mauck may have caused LSU to lose games they would have won comfortably in 2002, while losing Dellinger caused LSU to lose games that would have been closer. The net affect on the W-L record was the same.
