I think he deserves it. Made LSU's historically worse defense respectable. Maybe could have stopped that A&M kid and Milroe if Perkins would have been available

True but that’s a low bar to hurdle. Most 12 year olds playing Madden can draw up better defenses than what we had

I thought Denbrock should’ve won last year

I like Baker and we had a nice stretch but after the Aggy collapse, the bama beating and letting a one legged leg qb whip him I’m not seeing top assistant level stuff this year. I think he will be great next year and forward though.

Voting must be influenced by salary.

Literally not a single soul on the LSU team deserves an award unless it’s a mediocre award

This is the correct answer.

If he can successfully scheme us to stopping OU's running QB then I will be ok with him getting Honorable Mention.

Ummm. No. It’s not as bad as last year, but he in no way deserves the best coordinator in the country.

Going from "Historically Bad" to "Kinda Mediocre" is perfectly acceptable to all the MA's on here and in the fan base.

It's still not in the acceptable level for LSU Football if an SEC Championship and advancing in the Playoffs is the goal.

MA's saying "We can't wait for our trip to Shreveport to play Tulane in the Independence Bowl." (Or against the hungry Nebraska Lunch Pailers in the Music City Bowl or any other worthless Mediocre Bowl)

This defense made significant progress without any notable upgrades through the transfer portal or contributions from freshman. The problem isn’t whether that is acceptable or not. The problem is the ridiculous expectations from LSU fans that our defense should become the ‘85 Chicago Bears overnight because the defensive coordinator is highly compensated.

Could be we took all the NIL money that we had for the quarterback that we lost and paid off the Broyles award committee to nominate Baker.LOL

There is only so much smoke and mirrors and scheme and coach can use to cover up issues. I agree he doesn’t deserve to win the Broyles, but the nomination is deserved.

If the talent level continues to increase (holding onto this class is critical for that), then this staff will soon turn in elite results.

No one goes from historically bad to great in a season. NO ONE. Jim Knowles has been a great DC everywhere he’s been and has one of the top defenses in the FBS this season. He still had a step ladder season and half the next season before getting OSU fully back to top-10 level, and he had better talent already on board when he came in than Baker currently has here.

Idiots like you are why this site sucks 99% of the time. Some of you people have absolutely no knowledge of how football works.

Here it is in terms that tRant rabble can understand. Was Saban’s defense elite in year one or two here? Not even close. Chavis in year one? Nope. Aranda in year one? Nope. Everyone took at least one full season to rebuild. And Saban was the only one who had to rebuild from the kind of level the staff this year faced.

He’s a good coach. LSU fricked around and low balled him early on. He was making them pay for Kelly not retaining him which cost him a frick ton of money. When they ponied up, it was after the transfer portal closed. He had some guys he was gonna bring in but it was too late. Just wait. It’s coming.

THIS ^

He doesn’t deserve it, this year . . .

But given what he started with, and what he’s had to work with this year, he hath sweated miracles.

Did anybody realistically expect him to produce a defense comparable to 2003, or 2007, or 2011, or 2019 -- in his first year, and with this group ??

Not me -- and anyone who DID expect such a thing (and you know who you are) is dumber than soup.

If LSU can continue (even if slowly) to get the Jimmies & Joes again, Baker will eventually be worthy of a Broyles -- and it will be well-deserved.
