The largest gripe against ending illegal immigration is that people (on the left and right) claim that Americans wont work these low paying hard labor jobs like farming/construction/cleaning...

They claim that you'd have to pay double for your housekeeper if you wanted to hire an American... Okay.

What if we allowed anyone on government assistance, to keep their government assistance and be able to work these select "migrant heavy" jobs for minimum wage. You'd raise the labor pool for these jobs and, at the same time, help your fellow Americans. Not selling them short for foreign cheap labor.

Supposedly some folks on gov't assistance are unemployable. Of course that's a slippery slope for people to self-define, but we all know of some people that we would rather pay to stay home than come in and make a giant mess by getting sucked under a tractor while farming or lighting my house on fire while cleaning a stove.

I guess you increase pay till they want them. Then you increase your prices to offset that. Then you work on increasing your efficiency.

These jobs are unskilled labor. But I'm not saying they wouldn't be subject to getting fired for poor performance like anyone else.

They can hire all of the government bureaucrats that get laid off January 20th to pick lettuce and install insulation in attics.

It's the work ethic that immigrants bring to the table along with the moderately cheaper price. The immigrants will show up to start working on your roof at 7 am and work until dark and get the job done on time. US born labor is not as reliable. I was talking to a pool contractor who is voting MAGA, he says you can't beat the Mexicans and Central Americans for working hard and doing a good job.

He said white guys are the worst at the labor thing. He'd take a paralyzed Hispani first. At least he knows the paralyzed Hispanic would show up for work

That is an option but you could also allow legal immigration for non murderers, rapist, drug dealers by following the law and process of legal immigration that actually vets people wishing to immigrate here. The amount of complication we construct for problems make me smh…

They can come in legally, get a green card and obey the law. That worked in the past. But the current administration ended that. They let in people who have no intent on working and they let in criminals.

Just wait until robots become more viable. There is going to be an even larger class of unemployables. And for white collar workers, they need to think if AI can replace them.

Yes listen to out of touch elitists on what jobs are for which people. It’s the height of arrogance

The only ones losing their jobs do to a Presidential change on January 20 are the higher paid, political appointments. They'll have some sort of lobbying or other political consulting job awaiting them.

Farming jobs can be replaced by tech to a degree, as some parts of the world have invested in harvesting tech to make up for a lack of bodies in the field.

Cleaning? There is a limit to how this can be mechanized and, TBH, I think that welfare to work cases aren’t necessarily the best plan considering the reputation that hotel housekeeping and janitorial have for shite going missing.

Last I looked, somewhere around 15M people get a disability check from the govt. That probably doesn't come close to the number of people with various health issues that you would find receiving welfare of some sort, or the homeless, and so forth. And you think you could just send these people to farming jobs, to be maids, and other similar types of work?

'government assistance' comes in many different forms. NFIP, Pell Grant, etc.

Yes. I'm saying send the people in wheelchairs to work on roofing crews.

I live in an agricultural area. The farmers always say 'no one wants to do those jobs' as the support for migrant workers.

The truth is quite simple. We are 'supposed' to be a free market economic system. If no one wants to fill your 'help wanted' advertisement PAY MORE! If the working conditions are good and pay is adequate, you will have job applicants lined up around the block.

That's my direction of thinking. Quit paying these slobs to sit in the projects all day getting drunk and high. They'll go to work when they get hungry enough.

I worked in a tobacco field as a kid for $18 a day at 7/8 yo. I pushed mowers and shovels when I got big enough. Paid cash for my first truck at 15yo. I grew up poor, and my dad worked a lot of those jobs beside us for extra cash. I know struggles, that's why I decided I wanted to do more. RR ain't made me rich, but I don't struggle.

It's a fallacious argument. You set a visa program that allows for literal MIGRANTS (not illegal immigrants) to come to the country to work ag and seasonal jobs.

NZ does this program. I looked into it out of college. In essence, you get a fruit-picker's visa, and you can be in the country for 6 months during growing and harvest seasons. At the end of that season, you must vacate, and must reapply for a new visa. You don't have to be sponsored - you just have to find work just like anyone else. But the visa only works for jobs in certain sectors. Like, you can't run a hotel or something, but you can work food service or what-not.

In short, the US doesn't want to fix this problem. But, they give it lip service because it helps both sides with their electorate. The dems want the vote and demographic change, and the GOP wants the cheap, easily disposable labor.

Disability should only go to people with visible injuries. IE, if you only have one leg you get the check. If it's 'my back hurts' you get nothing. Get a job sitting down.

If you want to slow migration...

1) Cut taxpayer dollars that supports non profits who are flying these people into the country.

2) Build mfg plants in Mexico.
