Just finished Two Towers. Cannot believe my nerdy arse just skipped this whole series growing up. It’s so damn good. I’ve been watching the extended editions and getting ready to start Return of the King.

After I’m done, are The Hobbit movies as good or on par with these 3?

Just let ROTK be the end of your LOTR journey. End it right there

The Hobbit trilogy is highly disappointing.

Very boring and tonally all over the place. The decision to make that project a trilogy was absolutely awful from a creative standpoint and it shows. It has a few moments here and there but not worth it.

Rings of Power is an abortion and the less said if it the better.

Much like Star Wars, stick to rhe original trilogy and pretend the rest doesn't exist.

No. Find a three and a half hour fan edit if you can.

Read the Hobbit book. Don't watch the movies.

I don’t HATE the Hobbit trilogy but I’d should have been 2 movies. I’m much more likely to watch all 3 of LotR than I am a single Hobbit. Honestly Desolation of Smaug is the best by a mile IMHO. Actors were good across the board IMHO but they stretched too much content that wasn’t there to make it 3 movies.

And they leaned way too much CGI compared to LotR.

Smaug was done well in terms of look and Cumberbatch did a good job with the voice but that’s the high point of the Hobbit movies.

I think the Hobbit trilogy is worth watching as a nerd, even though they’re not that good

LOTR is just the holy grail of fantasy cinema

I’m sad that Hollywood will most likely attempt to remake LOTR in the next 10 years

If you're not a total cynical movie watcher and enjoy material from the LOTR universe, you'll enjoy The Hobbit just fine.

It's not as good as the LOTR trilogy, but it's worth watching.

Absolutely correct. One of the most overlooked aspects of the first two movies is the cinematography. Absolutely gorgeous landscapes. This is lost now, due to the over-reliance on CGI.

I thought the best thing about the whole trilogy was this guy.

Even when it got silly he kept it badass.

I'm jealous. The greatest trilogy of all time. The only fantasy movie to ever win best picture.

LOTR isn't nerdy like Star Wars IMO

The movies weren't Best Picture quality but if you're a fan they are a must watch.

I’ve been rewatching them. Doing the extended editions but usually break it up over a couple days each.

Now imagine watching them for the first time in a packed movie theater around Christmas for 3 yrs in a row.

If you ever get a chance to see them on the big screen during the holiday season, or is a must for any LOTR/film fan.

this. You didn't need any extra motivation to get excited during christmas time but LOTR made it even better those 3 years.

LotR is the best fantasy ever produced... It is also hard to watch if you read the books at least once a year. So many cringe changes. Peter Jackson is a cornball.

I was a teenager and we were on vacation to NYC at Christmas time when ROTK opened

I begged my parents to go to a Sunday morning showing by myself in Times Square.. I remember vividly the ticket was $13.50 and the theater seated 2,000 people… and it was breathtaking. What a way to see the end of that trilogy.

Watch the first 20 minutes of the hobbit, then fast forward to riddles in the dark, then fast forward to Bilbo meeting Smog, and then stop. Just read the book again for the gaps.
