Probably his BEST coaching day in his long and successful football history. From calling timeouts to get another possession in 1st half to 4th down decision to go for it on Tigers side of the field on last possession. It was a magical night in Tiger Stadium and our Coach made all the right decisions when it counted. The way the defense was playing I was surprised the Tigers went for it on 4th down early on their last possession. That was a call that not many coaches would have made. I guess he figured Kiffin would not sit on the ball and try to close it out offensively w his aggressive play calling. It worked out and put the Tigers squarely in the playoff conversation. Haven't seen any comments about this. We've come a long way since USCw football game. Thanks Coach.

Just start deferring to the 2nd half. That’s my biggest gripe

He once again didn’t have the team prepared with ample time to do so. He’s terrible with extended preparation time. Baker deserves credit.

He deserves credit, but man, we have to start playing well from start to finish.

We can't afford to constantly have to climb out of holes we put ourselves in early in the first half.

It's pretty simple. You put your strength on the field first. Les M. always deferred because his offense was never as strong as his defense.
BK puts the offense on the field first because that's the strongest group. However, the defense is definitely improving.

Not counting the kneel down at the end of the half.

By taking the ball 1st, LSU got an extra possession in the 1st half. Hmm....

There was under 3 minutes left and LSU only had two timeouts as I recall. Had they punted, and Ole Miss ran it three times, LSU would have had under two minutes, about 70 yards to go, and would have needed a TD. THAT’s long odds.

Going for it was an obvious call. If you fail to get it your odds are not much worse than if you punt. In each case you have to stop Ole Miss on three downs and field a punt. In the case of going for it you’d be fielding a punt on about your 10 yard line, so you’d have to go about 20 more yards.

They were ready, the offense just didn't do their part in the first half. If Kelly gets no credit for good defense, he shouldn't get blame for bad play calling.

Once the echo chamber get's its talking point out, it will never change.

BTW, UT won the toss vs OU and chose to take the ball.

These guys actually believe they know the football teams strengths better than Sark and Kelly.

I mean, it's a game flow thing. And we have a strong history of starting slow offensively under the CBK regime. I think deferring would be better for us.

The way I see it:
We always start slow on offense and don’t get going til we’re down a score or two. So out the defense out there first. If they get a stop great. If not then the offense can get going sooner without wasting a possession.

It varies though. He’s deferred at times. I think it really just comes down to Kelly wanting a killer instinct on offense and to bury opponents early. The game flow absolutely didn’t go the way they thought it would but the defense’s heroics kept them in the fight all night long - that’s a testament to team culture and their mental and emotional maturity.

was at the game wildin out the whole time, rewatching the game for the first time now. Could’ve been 17-0 OM at the end of the 1Q instead 0-0. Crowd deserves the credit they’ve gotten because if not for Tre dropping a sure TD pass on the first drive, missed chip shot FG on second drive and 4th down stuff inside the 5 yd line on the third drive they could’ve put us in a huge hole early. They were visibly rattled on a number of big plays early

Ole Miss ended both halves with the ball. They had more possessions than we did. Why do people think that taking the ball first somehow gives you an extra possession?

That makes it worse. The decision is the same every time, there’s no benefit to taking the ball first

This is a silly made up thing based on feelings and I don’t think it’s worked a single time this season.

There’s no first half scenario where I wouldn’t rather have the ball to start the 2nd.

I understand the logic behind it but how many times have we gone down and scored on the opening possession this year?

We’re not a quick starting team, so pretending that getting our offense out there first gives us a leg up has proved not to be true.

Usually a 3 and out and now we have the added worry of the opposition starting the 2nd half with the ball.

Put the defense out there first. If they get a stop, it's a win win. It's means we stole a possession and get a guaranteed possession to start the second half.

I rather give up my first possession against a strong opponent because the first couple of possessions are both teams trying to figure things out. Those first two possessions are usually your opponents best shot. If they score points, fine, they did what they were supposed to do. If they don't, you steal their momentum and demoralize them like it happens to us every time.

You have that opportunity steal a possession and get an extra after the half. Second half, you come out with your adjustments and put up 7.
