Do you feel it is necessary to acknowledge every single email you get?

My boss will send "thanks" letting me know that my email was receive. Huge pet peeve of mine. Like, it's an email - I know you got it.

Depends on the item and sender.

Executive level - Gets a response

Items that are important or time sensitive - gets a response

I do not acknowledge every single email. The only problem with this is that it leaves room for miscommunication or people saying "I never received this" after they have missed a deadline, etc.

It depends.

But while we're on the subject of

Sad that some of yall have to have an email address just to work and get paid to have money to buy food. I never did the email so I don’t have the mark of the beast like yall

Well, there is a distinction between the email hitting his inbox, and him actually reading it.

I wouldn’t sweat it. If he’s not really reading a bunch of them, his acknowledgment is just creating evidence in your favor.

That’s a far better problem to have then having 22 people on CC with no clear calls to action, etc.

No.

But anytime I’m asked something, asked to do something, asked to approve something, etc I respond.

Sometimes I send a simple thank you email to make sure the person that sent the email detailing the work performed knows my appreciation

Unnecessary. And…

got it...yes

read and acknowledged the email...thats why people need to respond with "thanks"

Youll understand when/if you start getting more responsibly and having a lot of people working for you.

personal email, no way.

professional email, 100%. It is my job to make my customers life easier. part of that is acknowledgement of emails so they know i am on it.

What about the people who respond “you’re welcome” to the “thank you” email?

My $0.02:

If the email requires action on your part and you aren’t going to work on it immediately, some sort of acknowledgement goes a long way. The obvious example to me is inside salespeople. If you send an email to a vendor asking for a quote and it’s going to take them a day or two to get back to you, it’s nice to know they received the request and are working on it. But the same can apply to internal stuff.

For every email? No, it’s not necessary. But I’m never going to get bent out of shape over someone saying thank you.

What’s worse than that?? Having an email go out to an entire kids’ classroom and having a half dozen of them hit “REPLY ALL” to say they plan to bring juice boxes for snack time and then someone hits REPLY ALL to that to say they are bringing string cheese and a REPLY ALL to that that Jimmy is lactose intolerant…. You get the point. I now have 67 emails to delete.

I think the bigger issue is that your boss sending you a "thanks" is actually a pet peeve of yours. Why would it even rise to the level of bothering you?

If I'm the only one in the "to" line, I will acknowledge receipt in some fashion.
