Guess I am not old enough to know about him. Just read that SI article. Wow, what sad story.

I won a sports radio call-in contest once by being able to remember him as being on the list of BigXII/Big 8 Heisman winners. Several callers before me filled in the rest of the list, but none of them remembered Salaam.

The host asked me how I came up with that name....think this was in 1999, and I was like "I just remember because it wasn't that long ago." Guess he was already so far out of the spotlight they were acting like it was obscure knowledge.

Anyway, thanks for that free Papa Johns pizza, Mr. Salaam. R.I.P.

It sounds like he had way more issues going on in his head than some award he once won.

Sounds like the dude was talented. Just injury and slightly fumble prone. Too bad he didn’t have a good support system because that seems like something that SHOULD be relatively easy to come to terms with. Like your Body broke down man that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Really sad.

Always thought his name would be great as an answer on Wheel of Fortune.

"I'd like to buy a vowel, Pat. An "A" please."

I remember him running for over 300 yards against Texas. That game launched him into the Heisman spotlight.

Kordell was Mike Evans to Salaam's Johnny Football.

All I remember about Rashaan Salaam is that every time he’s on an ESPN night game, he’d run for 150 and 3tds. And ESPN would play their 90s cfb theme when showing his highlights before commercial break.

false

If you compare Kordell to Manziel, Evans would be Michael Westbrook

That Colorado team was loaded with NCAA all-timers

Christian Fauria was the TE on that team, too

Which one was the game where Tulane was spelled "Two Lane"?

I remember one of them not being allowed to use the name of certain schools. They named all the schools that ended in State as "State of Florida" etc
