It has to be Rattler right??? Or is Carr lobbying for Jake to start over Rattler?

Why is everyone obsessed with Rattler? Wtf has he done besides be on a Netflix show and have a mediocre college career?

He might actually be interesting to watch

Neither backup QB is NFL quality. Inexperienced and too small. Behind this line they're even greater liabilities

Well, Haener is the backup so it will be Haener.

So play the one with the higher upside, which is clearly Rattler - Doubly so because he spent his time at SC running for his life every play just like he will here.

Why would Rattler start? Haener has been with the team longer so he'll start if Carr can't go. Now if Jake stinks it up and Carr is missing significant time, look for Rattler to start.

There's no way you can know this. Betting against any qb to make it is a good bet, but there hasn't been enough sample or haener or Ratliff to know for certain

How do you know that? Upside doesn't buy you jack shite. This is a results now driven landscape. The Saints fricked themselves royally signing Carr and having weak backups. The song remains the same.

INTs: Haener probably would throw less.
TDs: Rattler would definitely throw more.
Passing vision/processing reads: Very slight edge to Rattler, but I'd say it's close enough either way that Rattler's arm & ability to flick his wrist & launch the ball gives him the edge.
Pocket presence: Very close, maybe slight edge to Haener
Escapability: About even.
Arm Talent: Rattler by miles. This helps playing behind an injured o-line that might not give you the chance to fully step into throws like Haener would need. Also makes defense have to guard beyond 10 yards and not cheat a safety up negating both short passing game & running game.

Bottom line they are pretty close. Haener may protect the ball a little better but he'll also not have as many play making throws. Pocket presence & processing reads are close enough that even if you have Haener rated better it's not enough to make up for the arm strength and how much that affects the way the defense plays against him by only having to guard short-intermediate passes similar to last couple of seasons with Brees, though Drew was prepared & accurate enough to still be effective

Don’t disagree. But we’re a thin arse roster that isn’t winning shite with a hopefully lame duck HC. I’d like to be entertained in some way

Maybe it’s because he has high potential and our fanbase is looking for something to get excited about?

Doesn’t matter when it’s a first year OC.

I get that but DA has had Haener above Rattler since the beginning.

No matter which backup quarterback it is, they will be inexperienced so the coaches will want to run the ball a lot to protect them. So, basically, the same run-first approach they have had all season.
Whoever they think is better at running the normal offense will start. I assume they believe that is Jake since he has been the backup.

Who would you have got instead of Carr? Forget the contract for a minute. Name a QB that would have us 4-0 or 5-0 with no OLINE, no skill positions besides AK and Taysom.

That’s overly simplified. What we know is Haener is the in game back up. We don’t know who would be the reserve starter

Rattler is a guy who has the physical traits that MIGHT lead to production. Haener is just the next in line of the Saints never ending quest to find the next undersized, wholly average physically, QB who might defy all odds and become the next Drew Brees.

Neither are particularly "good" options. Rattler just gives fans the hope he could be really good.

I am definitely picking TB in my $100K survivor pool if we start wee Jake.
