It sure would be bad if a major earthquake happened during a football game. The yellow box on the left side of the picture features a zig-zag white line. This is the Hayward Fault Line that runs through the middle of the stadium. It runs parallel with the well known San Andreas Fault.

The fault fits inside the yellow box?

The fault line runs roughly goalpost to goalpost.

They’ve retrofitted and renovated the stadium over the last 20 years. It ended up costing a small fortune. Partly due to building codes due to the fault line, partly due to a shortcoming of seat licenses and donations.

The university had to resort to borrowing money and other funding sources that added a considerable amount of interest and other unexpected fees to the overall cost.

It's an interesting place for college football. Stadium itself rivals the bottom rung of the SEC. It's kind of in the side of a mountain so that was cool. Felt about 50% full to see an awful football game against Auburn last year.

One of the most overhyped overrated plays in NFL. Did Lynch make a great run? Absolutely he did. But make no mistake they weren’t
Exactly trying to put him on the ground either. They were 100% trying to strip the ball because doing that and getting the ball back was the only way the Saints had a chance.

I played at Cal from 72 to 75, and we talked about the Hayward Fault a lot, but the stadium had been there since 1923 with no problems, so it was a novelty and not a day to day concern.

I can’t imagine how bad it will be if something major ever happens on the Hayward Fault. Loma Prieta in 1989 was terrible, and that one was centered about 100 miles from campus. The stadium will be way down the list of concerns.

It is a California thing so the governor will surely rename it to Trump's fault.

Risk Management CA style: charge $800 for the shittiest tickets so no one will go thereby reducing the risk

Only in California would they build a stadium on a fault line.

They were probably afraid to move or they might hurt someone's feelings.

Cal Memorial is one of the most interesting venues in CFB. Bears are a disgrace of an athletic program, but it's criminally underrated for a cfb setting

The PAC 12 had some great venues with awesome scenery. Washington, Cal, the Rose Bowl, Folsom, and Sun Devil have some nice views. Autzen seems like a pretty fun place too. I miss that conference before the programs went to shite. USC was great as an evil empire. As a kid, I loved staying up late watching QBs sling it all over the yard in some 48-45 type game.

My question is WHY was football seemingly devalued at places like Cal, UCLA, Colorado (presumably after the recruiting scandal under Barnett), Arizona State?
