if you fondly remember watching the big red machine, you probably don’t need help feeling old.
Your back and joints are doing that

I love the big red machine. I love to listen to the stories my elders would tell me.

For guys in their late 70s and early 80s, they look pretty damn good.
Apparently this was the last time Pete Rose made a public appearance, and he certainly doesn’t look like a guy who was about to die a few days later.
I’m guessing it was heart-related.

Not sure if the guy on the right in black is George Foster but he still doesn’t look like someone I would want to mess with.
He was a force back in the day.
Edit: Apparently that’s Ken Griffey Sr. on the right. Looks great.

Foster in in the red hat. He’s obscured in the photo but in other pics he looks very good for 75 years old

George Concepcion and Griffey, Sr. look good.

Too bad Johnny Bench isn’t in the photo. Arguably the greatest catcher of all time
What a team they put together.

Those guys looked pretty old back in the 70s as well.

Let me test my memory off of that photo.
Rose, Foster, Conception, Bench, Geronimo, Morgan, Griffey Sr. and Perez.
A machine indeed

I remember playing Dixie Youth ball back in the mid 70s, everyone wanted to be #5.

I can verify this to be a true statement!

As a teenager, the Big Red Machine was my team. Got to see them play in 1967 at the Astrodome, early in Bench’s MLB career. What an offensive attack they had for many years. Would bludgeon teams to death on most occasions.

Getting to watch him play for his whole career, Johnny Bench would be my starter for my all-time baseball team. Crouching for 16 years behind a guy with a piece of wood in his hands is pretty outstanding.

It’s been nearly 50 years. Time stops for no one, not even sports immortals.

Bench is the one player on that team who was indisputably the GOAT at his position. A strong argument can be made for Morgan at 2B although his real peak was very short.
