Some poor decisions create externalities, even if the act itself has no clear victim.
I've seen enough Montana geezers spend their SS checks sitting in front of a reel machine every day to reconsider my stance on at least some forms of gambling.

We never should have legalized gambling of any kind. Gambling should be run by criminals in back rooms instead of corporations on an app in our homes.

Have you seen the sports betting crowd at BR casinos?
Sweatpants and slides, sweatpants and slides.......

She had it coming. Was going to win my 3 leg parlay until she came in the room with her bad luck.

or how about inflation out of control since legalization of gambling online. Sure people lose gambling but everything is so much more expensive than 4 or 5 years ago.

is sports betting making people trashy or are trashy people more likely to sports bet?

I’ve given it up. I was only betting $5 and $10 here and there and may be down a collective $200 on DraftKings.
I’m just not good at it and don’t care to keep losing

I guess, except that we pay for all types of safety net programs(food stamps, welfare, unemployment, Medicaid, SS disability etc. Etc.) When you use tax dollars to provide a service/safety net, you open up legislation that tries to prevent people from using those services.

Everything costing 35% more than 4 years ago is probably what has depleted people's savings

It's crushed my finances this last month.
I ended up in 2022 by like $5k and hit those playoff SGPs and ended up like $15k last season so started this year off super aggressive. Now down $8k since LSU game through yesterday and will have to withdraw from etrade to pay. Have not hit a significant bet all season. SGPs are the devil because even when I have what would have been "good weeks" in the past, now they are losers when I don't hit any SGPs. NFL weeks 1 and 2 fell into these buckets for me.
Saints loss to Eagles crushed me and LSU loss to USC crushed me as well.

But, it's their choice. And should be up to the States.
And it's not an addiction or human/sin tax. Plus, it all goes to education and roads.

Yeaaaa that article seems to be a stretch b/c the timing of these legalized apps with inflation is more likely the reason than gambling.

This is the least surprising thing ever
