I’ve been spending more of my holidays with the in-laws and curious if we’re all tricked by our wives to spend time w her family. I just found out they are coming for thanksgiving

Wife's family gets Christmas day since it is the biggest for both families

My family gets Thanksgiving/Christmas Eve/Easter to make up for no Christmas Day.

Has worked well the past 10 years

If your wife’s comes from a good family, that is usually how it works. My wife comes from a broken family too, so mostly spent with mine.

Make plans with both sides months in advance. Both are understanding and we prioritize based on who got more leeway the year before.

We have big events on both sides we make sure to make every year but everyone's pretty respectful of everyone's time so it doesn't usually last more than a couple of hours.

We do thanksgiving with my in laws every other year, and my parents on the off year. Christmas with both if we go back home, but we are back at our house for Christmas Eve because Santa passes at the wafers home.

Wife has a great family and nearby. My family sucks and is spread out.

99% with hers and I’m fine with that.

Everyone comes to my place. I don't know if that's better or worse though.

Her parents come to my families Thanksgiving. Christmas eve with her family, the morning with our kids, then to my parents for the rest of the day. Her parents will normally show up there at some point. We are lucky that everybody gets along, or is at least civil.

We moved away before our first Christmas as a married couple.

Both sets of parents know that they are all welcome at our home for the holidays. They've only both taken us up on that offer on the same holiday a couple of times in years since

my wife has her mother. lives about 3 miles away. that's it. that's the list.

so it's basically whatever we choose to do or not do with my family.

Ya gotta get that shite on an alternating schedule.

I’m about to put a foot down on Christmas though, cuz our kids are grown and out of the house.

Xmas is at my house… grandparents can come here… I’m finished going to theirs.

We do big extended family Xmas gatherings a couple of weeks before at various family member locations.

We alternate Thanksgiving and Christmas each year. But her family lives farther away so we spend more time with them

We started caring more about what and how we wanted to do holidays and less about what our parent's wanted and it's been great. No stress
