Simple thing to do and if needed it can be thawed or unfrozen in less than an hour. Unless you’re taking out a new line of credit there’s no reason for it not to be frozen. Especially with all the hacking going on this is the best security against it

Yep, it's very simple to do and really everyone should. Just have to remember to thaw it for a new app. I've forgotten a couple times but you just call the bank after you unfreeze it.

You need to create free accounts with the 3 agencies and then freeze. It's free.

Actually, the best thing is to use a password vault, so you're not sharing passwords between critical sites, so you're using complex passwords, too. Next, turn on MFA.

Make an account with Experian. There is an area to freeze your credit with one button. They have a free version to do this and a paid version. Don't fall for the paid version you can do it for free.

You have to do all 3 - Equifax, Transunion and Experian.

I did all of mine recently after I got an alert about my SSN being found on the dark web.

And definitely freeze it after doing mortgage applications or buying a car. Idk who the shady arse people are that get access to your info during those processes, but we’ve had some type of attempted credit use every time

I have been on the fence with password vaults. I worked in IT for many years, and believe every computer in existence is hackable. Currently, keep my passwords on paper. A zero risk approach does not exist.

You can thaw it at anytime in a matter of seconds. No reason to not have everything frozen.

A bit time-consuming but worth it. I froze mine after AT&T told be my info was part of the hack last spring.

I've been a part of so many data breaches I've lost count, but this most recent one with National Public Data was almost the entire country, and not too long after that I got some alerts about my SSN being exposed. I decided to freeze everything at that point.

Everyone should do this. Even on your kids numbers.

I had signed onto all 3 credit agencies a couple of years ago, with frozen account status. But didn’t stop unauthorized opening of new accounts (BMO Bank, Chime) with stolen identity over the last couple months. So don’t let your alertness level down by depending only on those credit agencies. They don’t prevent all problems.

Honestly didn't know this was a thing until now, and this has been a fear of mine for some time.

Will do it for myself, wife, and kid next week.

Took less than 10 minutes and I had to create 2 accounts. No reason not to do it

At this point whose info isn’t on the dark web? We should get alerts if they can’t find our SSN out there.
