Dads that pay child support: how do you do it?

I’m going to have to think outside the box. Paying a mortgage by myself and forking over 20% of my net leaves me with little wiggle room. My lifestyle is already changing from a financial standpoint. The days of traveling and eating out are gone. I’m an OT poor for sure. I’m a teacher, but also do extracurriculars so my summer is about 6 weeks, not 12 as many on this board think.
I work many Saturdays and have practices daily, so I don’t really have time to pick up a second job. I might have to become my own version of antiquetiger.

Get a new wife to pay half the bills.

What state are you in? I ask because in LA if your ex-wifes salary is commensurate with yours, you shouldn't pay that much.
In any case, you will figure it out. My advice is do not let the child support make you bitter. Hopefully your ex uses it for the needs of your child.

Well, you just said you don’t work for over a month out of the year. Figure out what to do during that time for $.

What kind of salary were you pulling down as a teacher to do all that and have a house note?

Just want to say I respect the openness you've had when it comes to your divorce and all that. Appreciate you sharing.
Hang in there. It will take a long time, a couple years at least, but you'll get there.

It's tough. Definitley puts a toll on your financial stability and the lifestyle you were used to. You're paying an extra house note basically. However, its a small price to pay for happiness. I'm glad I didn't have to hear nagging and bitching 24/7 anymore. No money is worth living your life in misery. Hang in there bro. They eventually turn 18.

The youth in the inter-city have some ideas for you. Just have to learn how to speak their language.

We didn’t have a child and had two incomes for mortgage and bills.

Was she a bitch? Think of it as the cost of being free. Some days I break out a pad and pencil and see if it’s worth it.

How are you the one paying support when you’re a teacher?
Do you need the same size house as you did before?

Back in 08 or 09 i got divorced and was paying alimony on top of 1100 a month for one kid. That was pretty high for 15 years ago. I was screwed for a few years but I made it work.
I got a roommate and started banging sloots for a few years until the alimony fell off, then I was good.

People I know that went through this basically downsized everything. You start to figure out the difference between need and want pretty quickly. Or, you just go into insurmountable debt and keep living the life.

Why are you paying for those children? Their baby-daddy should be kicking in, bigly.

It’s the amount you pay to not sleep in the same bed with her. I’d honestly pay double for that. It’s a bargain considering what you get

That's cool I get about 4 weeks of PTO.

Apartment/Condo living has its advantages. Your yard care budget goes to $0 and your home improvement budget is decreased to a minimum.

My divorce was many years ago, and I thought that there was no way I could make it financially. As the months went by, I found I had plenty of money. Then it dawned on me just how much my ex was spending on total BS.
