Need to cull my wardrobe. Tips?

Looking at some photographs from 10 years back and I noticed myself waring items that are still in my closet today. Nothing tacky. Basic stuff, like a blue collared shirt, etc. Worn just occasionally. Still in good shape. Still fit fine. But it got me thinking that maybe I need to just toss (or dontate) a lot of this stuff, downsize my wardrobe, and add a new item here or there.
Any good stories about cleaning out your t-shirt drawer, old clothes, etc?
Success stories or horror stories. I'll entertain both.

If you want to update your wardrobe to modern styles, then Abercrombie & Fitch should be your first stop

If it is a year-round item and you haven’t worn it in 6 mos, pitch it.
If it is seasonal clothing, and you didn’t wear it last season, pitch it.

If you haven't worn it in two years (and it's not a tux or similar special event dress) dump it. I know my 1997 28-21 victory shirt is somewhere. I stopped buying shite like that 20 years ago
I had to dump a fair number of business shirts (Brooks Brothers and the like) because I realized the collars weren't something that exists this millennia. For some reason, I was convinced pleated dress pants was the way to go in 2005... Gone. Kept I think two of the jackets though. The other thing I shitcanned easily was ties. There are plenty of ties that I bought based on a shirt/tie combo, and the shirt is gone, the tie is not. Well, it doesn't go with any other shirt I have, so, bye.
One of my peeves is dress socks. Are you a pair of socks I can stand around at a Mardi Gras ball for for a few hours and tolerate? Or are you a pair of socks I hate after a quarter mile? GTFO.

My wifegoes through my wardrobe for me when she does laundry. A shirt she doesn't like? She throws it away instead of washing it.
But that's only for clothes going out in public. My work clothes here on the farm, she's only allowed to wash. I have some overalls that are 9 years old and about to fall apart, but she's not allowed to make decisions on things like overalls and coveralls. That shite's above her pay grade.

If you have room, just pack it all away in a bag and put it in a closet / storage room / garage etc. One day you may be poor and need to return to those clothes, or you may find someone in need.

It just takes a kitchen sized garbage bag. If you (as a dude) put it in a bag, you don't feel great wearing it (not just OK,) then the conversation is over. It's out. Nobody is driving around our downtowns looking for junkies that need a suit and tie for interviews.
There are charities for business wear that exist, but they are a 70m round trip, whereas the useless goodwill is four minutes away. One would think that Goodwill would pull business wear from their pile of t shirts to send to fellow orgs, but they don't. It all seems to go to the third world.
But clean your closet, especially of BS socks, underwear, and shirts made for Minnesota that should never be worn in the South, in any season.

I cull mine every 2-3 years. If I haven’t worn it in that long, I likely could live without it.
Sans stuff for specific usage, like hunting clothes and coveralls that might just go unworn for a few years.

Are you still wearing Geranimals?
Keep the Batman, Superman, and Spiderman jammies tho.

Save the clothes and pack them in vacuum bags and label the year. The bags don’t take up much room and when you’re old you can make bank on those clothes because they’ll be in style again.
Or just have a yard sale.

On New Years, turn all your clotheshangers backwards in your closet. As your wear and wash clothes, hang them back up normally. At the end of the year, anything that's still backwards means you haven't worn it in a calendar year. Donate them unless they're sentimental like a lettermans jacket or something like a tux that you might still wear on certain occasions that just didn't happen during that year.

When I wear it and wash it I put on the left side or closet rack. After a while everything on right besides fishing shirts or Sun shirts I use occasionally I donate.
Keep some old for when I need something that I know I am going to ruin, painting or oil in engine work.

One good side effect of moving state to state as a kid was learning early about culling and keeping possessions to a minimum. Mom at 86 still has 3, 5, and 10 year culls.
I had a near absolute cull with the destruction of my last residence. Basically a single closet of clothes and a couple of pc’s and a 15 year old car makes up my entire estate.

Depends on your body type. I use Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren online.
I purge and replace my tee shirts regularly, it looks better and feels better.

No. No one does. Just throw out your old clothes and don’t make a big deal about it.

If you still like the shirt and it’s in good shape keep it. If not, toss it
