Married couples renewing vows, does it just mean someone cheated?

I’m being forced to go to a vow renewal this Saturday and not too happy about it. The couple has been married for just over 3 years.
It got me thinking, what’s even the point of these things unless there’s been infidelity going on? And if there has, why would you want to draw attention to it with some big arse production? Were the original vows you made on your actual wedding day not enough? Were you just kidding the first time? Do some people just do this for attention?
Will someone help me understand?

Jesus. I’ve heard of people doing this on 25th or 50th anniversaries but 3 years?

3 years seems odd to me. 10 years maybe 15-20 years absolutely.

10 years? Maybe. 15 and beyond, I think it's a sweet gesture. 3 years?

If it’s a couple that’s been married 30+ years I can see doing it just to “relive” the wedding experience. But if it’s within 10 years, yeah. Someone 100% cheated or got caught flirting with other people

It’s pretty egotistical for a couple married just three years to expect people to show up. Pure attention seeking.
ETA. I’d rather deal with the fallout of not attending.

And it’s not even their anniversary. They got married New Year’s Eve of 2021. I had to go to that too

Needing to renew vows seems like it’s defeating the purpose of a vow in the first place.

What the frick? Who would possibly feel “forced” to go to something this absurd?

You should ask them directly, in the presence of whomever is making you go. “So does this mean one of you cheated?” Lol

That’s different and respectable/understandable

3 years lol. That’s a perfect encapsulation of modern marriage and culture, lol. 3 years.

Let me guess, the couple is in their twenties?

My mom and stepdad renewed theirs back in May for their 30th anniversary. 3 just seems a little quick to me.
