The Bikeriders:

Movie was solid and well acted. Based on true story. More serious than expected but had a few laughs. Tom Hardy and Jodie Comer were fantastic in their roles. Austin Butler was good but a little over the top with the pensive /James Dean vibe. Michael Shannon, as always was good, but his part was not big enough, which was a bummer. The runtime was not too long at 2 hrs. Would recommend if you like a well told story and great acting.

It was a little too much if the squinting of the eyes and silent staring. He said in an interview he watched some James Dean films. It showed. That style is best left with James Dean.

He didn't just watch some James Dean movies. I think he believes that he is the second coming of the man.

I thought the ending was kind of meh. Not bad, just felt like "ok, its over now".

I may be in the minority, but I thought he pulled off the Harkonnan villain pretty well in Dune 2

Solid film. Another stellar performance by Tom Hardy. I personally felt that Jodie Comer was miscast as Kathy - she just wasn't nearly attractive enough to be a realistic match for Benny (Austin Butler). They made her out to be way hotter than she actually was with the way all the guys ogled over her. She was kind of annoying, to be honest. The story Zipco (Michael Shannon) told about being rejected for going to Vietnam reminded me of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant Masacree." I agree that Shannon's character didn't get enough screen time.

bullshite. The true story wasn't told & Jeff Nichols is a dumbass. Jodie Comer gets more screen time than Michael Shannon. In a MC movie. It was a soap opera compared to real life.

No club is going to allow that to happen in the end & just do nothing. And they damn sure wouldn't have been scared like bitches.

The production quality & acting were good, but the story was shitastic. Complete & utter. No wonder the critics liked it.

Just finished this, and I disagree tbh. I thought both Hardy & Butler were sort of caricatures of that time & place, but actually really enjoyed Comer’s performance.

As for the movie, I seem to recall a poster who had access to an early screening in one of the other threads saying it was just a straightforward sort of movie, and I’d agree. I was expecting a bit more substance in a Jeff Nichols movie, but it just felt like a traditional biopic. It’s well made, shot well, has a pretty great oldies soundtrack (until they ruined it with the Lucero track during the credits) and has a nice cast, Loved the Will Oldham cameo as the barkeeper, but ultimately I was just sort of meh on it. I’d give it a B-. Worth a watch, but I’ll probably never see it again.

I liked this movie pretty well but it was slooooooowww.

Cinematography, acting, and music were top notch but it just plodded along.

Spoilers against a 60 year old story I guess but I was expecting more crime and action not realizing that this was the group when it was legitimately just a social club before it turned into what we think of MCs now.

It was decent. The closeness of the OG group wasn't established enough. Austin Butler wasn't too bad, he got the loner vibe down. Tom Hardy talking real low and slow didn't really work for me. The youth from a bad home\the streets wasn't needed.

This was Jodie Comer's film. I could listen to her read the phone book as that character and be thoroughly entertained.

I thought that the way that they used Butler, Hardy, and Shannon so sparingly was a great choice. The brooding Butler, the slightly confused and frustrated Hardy, and the simmering psycho Shannon all worked great in small portions.

What I really liked about this film was that it didn't try to elevate this biker gang into some all-powerful phenomenon. These are just guys who like being around each other, like being seen as tough and intimidating, and build something that gets out of hand and out of their control.

I'll be watching this one again.

Austin Butler might be one of the worst actors in Hollywood right now. Everything he does is a caricature of the stereotype he is trying to play. He is so bad that it distracts and ruins almost everything he is in. Matter of fact, I almost watched Bikeriders but decided not to because the movie "poster" on peacock had Austin Butlers stupid "im so mysterious and deep" squinty stare on it.

Somehow, Dune 2 is the exception. He was good in that. Maybe villain is his wheelhouse?

I anticipated more of a slow burn, serious movie (and maybe it ultimately is) and instead it had that Goodfellas cheesy narrative dynamic at the outset (I'm sure there is a name for whatever I'm talking about).

I turned it off after about 15 minutes. I'll have to revisit since most seemed to like it ok.
