Every time I mention it in Texas people don’t seem to understand.
I mean Texas people who aren’t from Louisiana originally. Like actual Texans

hurricane parties are just another excuse to get fricked up during the day in college when class is cancelled

They do them in the Carolinas and Florida as well.

Last hurricane party I was at was 2012 fall when LSU played Washington that weekend. Class was cancelled, but the game went on haha. That Friday in early September, I found a crawfish on the Cottages pond. Thought that was odd since it was September. Crazy how you remember the most insignificant things sometimes.

Hurricane parties were a thing until Katrina happened

I can attest that they do not have hurricane parties in WI or CA.

Katrina provided a 2 week long hurricane party in BR.

We had a pretty awesome hurricane party for Isaac in 2012. Our house was the only one out of our friends that didn't lose power. We had about 20 folks packed in for 2 days and I don't think we slept the whole time.

Mobile will start having them in a few years, then claim they originated the hurricane party.

It was definitely a thing at East Carolina

Unless you were a healthcare worker or law-enforcement or first responder, or worked for a utility or worked somewhere that required supply shipments or a restaurant or own a grocery store.
The problem with hurricane parties is that to the rest of us you look like an a-hole.

Central FL has had them since the 1940's

Real a-hole as a college kid with 3 roommates housing family from NOLA.
wtf else were we supposed to do?

Many older folks on the MS Gulf Coast claim to have attended hurricane parties during Camille.

We had tsunami parties in Okinawa, tie bed sheets to your wrist and ankles and you can turn into a flying squirrel!!!
