The new tax rules are no joke

The Clippers are blaming the new 2nd Apron restrictions for why they are letting Paul George walk for nothing. We know it’s not an unwillingness of Ballmer to pay the tax with his couch change.

Well we knew this was coming but someone had to say the quiet part out loud.
This kind of shite is why that 27 Bucks pick may still be worth a lot, as they are capped to hell and back with a lot of aging pieces around Giannis.

Suns, Warriors, Bucks, Nuggets and Wolves are probably screwed for the future with the CBA. Only one I see that are fine second apron teams are probably Celtics and Knicks.
You won’t see teams really trading much. Especially when guys are getting paid 50+ million a year
NBA is the only sport that teams get punished with restrictions for wanting to spend more. They should’ve done a hard cap instead.

Hard cap and get rid of the max.

Players won’t go for a hard cap, that was discussed

It's changed the whole dynamics of building a competitive roster. The focus used to be more purely on talent, but now it's shifting to the talent/salary ratio.
In other words, the new way to win titles is to get guys who outplay their contracts. That means hitting on draft picks and also doing stuff like locking up Herb's extension an off-season before he starts hitting his 3's.

They essentially did make a de facto hard cap.

Or they could stop giving guys like OG a max contract
The point of it is to have more competitive balance, and teams not having 3 max contracts on their team like the clippers.

Balmer doesn't mind spending, but he doesn't want to look foolish doing it. If he spends 250M (with taxes) and another team beats them, and puts them out of the playoffs, while spending less than 200M, in his mind he just wasted 50M. That's horrible business. Paying more for lesser results is a mark of bad management and that's not sustainable long-term. Even the Warriors are tired of wasting money..

Yep. Dynasties are much less likely in the future. The league will have more competitive balance.
And that was the goal of this CBA.

We all can thank KD for that.

Same thing will happen to the Celtics after next yr.

The Knicks will be fine cause their money is spread out between 6 or 7 players.
Celtics are going to have to get rid of white or jrue.
After next yr white and Tatum's new deals will kick in

So the Clips ended up trading 4 1st round picks, 2 pick swaps, Danilo Gallinari and SGA for 5 seasons of Paul George. Has to be the worst trade in NBA history.
