And not the school systems, how does this affects us families with children already in private schools. Sorry but does this allow the rif raf to enter catholic schools?

They still have to be accepted and abide by rules. The ones you don't want won't make that effort.
How many openings does the average private school have anyway? And is the credit enough for the whole tuition?

I like it. Gives the kids a fighting chance. The school bureaucracy is killing the kids. Now there has to be discipline or You are Fired.

quote:Yes. Its a handout in the tens of thousands over the course of just 8th to 12th grade. It's government money that will, when LA eventually elects another Democrat governor, will come with strings attached. It's Section 8ing private schools.

To my understanding the original bill stated the schools can maintain there admittance criteria.

If I had to guess the kids that would leave the public school system would not be the ones whose parents use public schools as a day care. I’m sure the kids they accept would be very good students. Now those students taking the spots of Catholic students is another story all together

Good for the basketball programs

I don’t like government handouts, but this one is different. La schools are awful and if these kids are ever going to have a chance they need a decent education. The ones that can do it will get that education, and it will force the other schools to raise their standards or get left behind. Either way the kids come out ahead.

What in the end was actually passed and signed? That bill seemed to have a lot of questions about it.

Had to do something. Louisiana's public schools are a fricking joke.

LA public schools suck because of demographics, our laissez-faire culture, and parents who don’t parent their kids. You can throw all the money in the world at this problem and it will still persist.
Also, you can’t tell me this won’t frick up private schools. I work my arse off, and pay out the arse to send my kids to private school and keep them away from the filth. And while there are still bad eggs in private schools, they don’t exist at the rate they do in public schools.

Are you serious? Even the most elite private schools in NOLA, Newman, St. Martins, Jesuit, Kehoe France, all offer scholarships to underprivileged minorities! This has been a thing for decades, trouble makers get kicked out, quickly!

So what the state cuts you a check per student?
Let’s say the state spends $7K per student per year.
For example - Private school tuition is $8K. I could see private schools raising their tuition to now $15K.

Mostly it kicked the can over to BESE to actually develop the program. So yeah, everyone should have questions.
Posted on 6/18/24 at 5:55 pm to BigJim
Is BESE interested in doing anything or will they slow walk it or reduce it in scope?
