That is why you start Ackenhausen

Your best available arm going into this game struck out 3 batters and then you pulled him. We held him so he would be able to pitch in high leverage situations at the end of the game then didn’t let him pitch in said high leverage situation. Jay over coached and it’s one of the reasons (along with the offense & Brown’s error) that we lost this game.

5 freaking hits, man
No need to talk about pitching
No need to talk about pitching

Did you have this ready to go in the 1st, just in case?

Brown miss played a ball in the first in i g also. This loss isn’t on Dalton.

Shut the frick up. Seriously.
The 8th is a high leverage situation and the ball went into the #1’s hands.

Why was he pulled after striking out the side in the 8th?

I mentioned the offense as well as Brown’s error. Both of those were really bad as well.

Or you just let him pitch the 9th
He was never starting.

Agree... starting Dutton was very questionable!

That too. I agreed with you in the game thread. Either way they limited their best available bullpen arm to 3 outs and that makes no sense to me.

I doubt there’s any scenario where LSU loses this game and you don’t start a thread blaming it on one of his decisions.

You needed 2 more outs and couldn’t do it!!

Come on dude, are you really going to say you think limiting your best bullpen arm to 3 outs is a good decision? The offense was pitiful. Browns error was inexcusable. There can be multiple reasons we lost this game. It’s ok to admit that.
If Jay says after the game that he should have left Ack in, will you still be pissed at me for agreeing with Jay?

He did against Wofford and he was blah. He is best as a reliever. Not sure about pulling him.

He should’ve started the 9th

The pitching would have made the 5 freaking hits a non-issue if JJ didn't try to outsmart everyone.
Bring Ack back out on a short leash, but to sit him after he struck out the side in the 8th was retarded.

I mean that’s not really what you were criticizing in the OP..? Saying we lost because he went to Jump (which is also silly IMO) =/= saying we lost because Ack didn’t start.

I think pitching Dutton and Coleman early makes sense in a game where Ack is the only guy you feel OK about extending if necessary. If I’m going to have to extend someone and let them work themselves out of trouble because I’m out of arms, I’d rather it be Ackenhausen than Dutton.
We wound up not having to do that because we got a fantastic performance from Helmers, but there was absolutely no guarantee that would happen.
For shits and giggles, let’s say we only got 2 innings from Helmers. That means you would have had 3.1 IP from Helmers, Dutton, and Coleman. But you don’t know you’re only going to get that much, so you pull Ack at the start of the 5th. Now you’re going to Ulloa or Jump in the 8th instead of the 9th. If you can steal a couple of innings from those guys early, you know you need to extend Ack.
We wound up not needing to do that because of Helmers but again, I see the logic.
But perhaps the most bullshite part of this, in my opinion, is blaming a loss on pitching decisions when we held the #4 national seed to 3 runs on 7 hits (through 9 innings) in our 5th game of a regional, when nobody thought we had the pitching to compete in 5 games. In fact, most people around here didn’t think we could compete in a 4th game coming out of the loser’s bracket.
We didn’t lose because of pitching. We lost this game because we only had 5 hits. If you told me we were going to hold UNC to 3 runs in regulation, in the 5th/final game of a regional, 2 weeks ago.. I would tell you I’ll see you in Omaha.
