Question for the 35+ crowd

I just can't really get into any new music. I go to this site, the big websites like Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogum and read about new acts - and just nothing new does anything for me. I don't know of any act that has come along in the past 10-15 years that really has blown my skirt up. I like Kurt Vile, Ty Segall, Run the Jewels and Kendrick Lamar well enough.
It's gotten to the point where to find stuff that's new to my ears that I like, I've dipped into the catalogs of bands that I used to hate, like the Grateful Dead and Yes. Or I've really taken deep dives into people with massive catalogs like Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Miles Davis.
I still like to go out and see bands, but more and more I'm becoming the sort of old fart that sees acts that were around when he was a young buck. (Outside of Kurt Vile, the last few shows I saw were Ween, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Neil Young and Echo and the Bunnymen)
Are any of y'all experiencing this? Is this just a natural part of getting older?

What you loved or what was current from high school through college to bars as a single adult will always be hat you drift toward. I always believe that.
That includes classic rock. I love The Doors and Zepplin. Morrison died before I was born and Bonham when I was 7 or 8.
Those years are just the sweet spot.
I too look for new things. Folk/country that’s big now is about the only thing I have found.

Dude I’m with you. I’m 38 and can’t get into new music. It’s terrible.

I find that finding the right college station can help, but you have to dig deep to find a good show. I'm in Atlanta, and I'll tune into the Ga. Tech and Clarke Atlanta stations. They both play some great Afro Beat music and Jazz/ Fusion stuff, but you have to wade through some of the crappy shows to find it. If you are in New Orleans, try the WTUL Americana and Country shows...good stuff there. I'm 66, and I'll never stop searchin'!

I find two or three new bands a year that I like. Some have lasting power, some don't. I enjoy new stuff, plus there's always older stuff I've missed out on.

Well enough? Kurt Vile (saw him in Atlanta recently) and Ty Segall are awesome. Run the Jewels is great and Kendrick Lamar sounds like a toddler is singing words that a toddler wrote.
Sine you like Kurt Vile and Ty Segall give the following a shot:
Kevin Morby
The Bones of J.R. Jones
The Smile (2 guys from Radiohead)
Amen Dunes
Matt Champion
Waxahatchee
Sierra Ferrel (best female country going)
Charley Crockett (best male country singer going)
Since you like Run the Jewels:
Killer Mike (1/2 of RTJ)
Schoolboy Q

I still find new music I like every year.. Not nearly at the rate I used to because I don't have as much time or go to as many shows as I once did...

There’s lots of good new music out there. It’s just harder to find because there’s so much available. I just came across a band from Vancouver called Meltt while listening to the War of Drugs station on Pandora. Put their latest album on while on my walk today and didn’t skip one track. So I found a new band I like today! It can be done :)

I like Kurt Vile, Ty Segall, Run the Jewels and Kendrick Lamar well enough.

Something I have found with a lot of newer bands is that I may like one or two songs from an album, but I often don't like the majority of any one album. With a lot of music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s that I enjoy, I often like the majority of the album with maybe one or two tracks that don't fit.
That may also be because when I was younger I would listen to albums at home or with friends more than the radio waiting on different singles. Your mileage may vary.

Most of the music I listen to today is from the 80s and 90s. I feel like that sort of sticks with you from the time you start liking music (8-9?) through your college days.
