I am heading to an estate sale right now and I decided to buy something for one dollar. How long would it take me to turn that one dollar into enough money to pay for family of four to go to Japan? I will deduct all Ebay fees and shipping and just use my net profit for each item and snowball it into a trip.
We are planning to go to Japan in two years and from what I see it’ll Be about $6000-$8000.
Updates to follow.
Completely edited the thread to keep it short.
Spent $1 - golf flag
Sold flag, $12 profit
I deleted everything I’ve sold up to last weekend to keep the thread short. I figure do this every $1000 made (even though I’m not quite there yet, but I did break $1000 last week, but spent some)
Here’s what sold since 8/22

You could probably turn this into a vlog series on youtube and spin up a channel.
There are ways of doing it faceless if you wish as well.
Just a thought that could help towards your goal.

What happens if you never sell your first buy? Is the thread over?

You can't haggle with airlines or hotel chains. I'd probably be prepared to budget a lot more than that for 4 people to go to Japan.

It’d only cover the airfare

Not really. With the value of the yen right now, I looked it up a few months ago for two of us would’ve been about $3500 for flight and hotels. This did not include food or train travel while there.

You would need to sell $25k at a margin of 30%ish to make that.

Me and Pops took $5 and ran it into like $8K over the course of a year or so. It was from online and store sales, but we tracked that $5 to see how far we could run it.
ETA: The initial purchase was from a thrift store and included four coffee cups. One cup was a designer NASA gift shop cup that sold for $45. The other was a Dachshund cup that sold for $30. I gave .75 cents for each of them. It was off and running after that.

I can't imagine this is accurate, but good luck to you nonetheless.

I’m talking just flight and hotel, not food, trains, spending money, etc.

Are you Craig from FlyingWheels?
Posted on 5/30/24 at 5:01 pm to theantiquetiger
An international flight is easily $1,500 to $2,000 a person. For a family of four that equals around $6,000 to $8,000 for the total flight bill. Almost all of your trip’s budget will be going towards the flight bill.
Better hope you can find a box on the street in Tokyo for your family to sleep in.

My grandmother came to this country with $20 in her pocket. She worked hard her whole life and never took shite from anyone. When she died, she had turned that twenty dollars into $2,000. That sucks.
