Looks like Grande Isle got one a 13 year old boy that "could barely swim" who was in the water near pass and by jetties(no place for a strong swimmer).

the next day a 10 year old girl air lifted to hospital.

From talking to someone down there this weekend current was kicking.

Surely it can’t be regulars. Or maybe people just not paying attention. This shite floors me when it comes to kids.

While there’s plenty of Spanish speaking people camped out there all the time, I’ve seen a ton of regular Joe’s bouncing around in water up to their armpits in that area. It can be tough to stand at times.

Heard father/son on Saturday and then little girl Sunday morning. Anyone know if that's accurate?

First reports Saturday were father and son, but later reports were just the son.
Little girl was rescued Sunday, thankfully still alive.

I think grand isle needs to ban water entry near the pass. You can preach till you blue in the face people just don't get it. But latest story I heard was father was fishing, boy was walking to father in rocks and fell in. His body washed up on the beach Sunday about noon.

Girl got knocked over by a wave swimming with a friend. Not sure what happened if she panicked or what but friend pulled her in and luckily a nurse was on beach and gave cpr for 20 min. Probably saved her live. Think she is alive in hospital but unconscious.

Wind was ripping all weekend. But nothing out the ordinary.

This should have been done quite some time ago. The Town of Grand Isle doesn't have the resources to properly patrol and manage the beach, much less the entire island. The number of folks who visit during the summer, especially on holidays, easily overwhelms the island.

Sounds like strong currents, maybe riptides, are kinda common all along the Gulf Coast right now. I heard some serious stuff off the Tx coast also. (I'm sure Big Joe will claim global warming....I mean "climate change" is to blame).

seems like last year was bad for the florida panhandle too. I guess thats just getting cranked up too though. Though I think they are taking fining people who swim on double red pretty seriously now though. $600 iirc

Was just in Walton County and the Sheriff’s Office was going up and down the beach keeping people out of the water. Double red flag day.

This one I don't get.

Short of a shark getting in between the shore and first bar.

I've known 3 people to drown due to rip tides, 2 in Florida and one in Grand Isle.

Former co-worker of mine, mid 50's, drowned in Grand Isle while surf fishing. He wasn't a great swimmer and was kind of a small guy who they think got caught up in a rip tide while surf fishing.

Last anyone saw him he was said to be near chest deep in the water.

The two in Florida were a few years apart and I'm pretty sure drugs were likely involved. Both young, each being in the mid 20's when they died.
The gal was a friend of mine's wife and the guy was also a former co-worker.

Strong south winds and Full moon had the current ripping (we went offshore Saturday and got our asses kicked). Coming back into the pass as the first USCG boat was running across, and by the time we got the boat pulled out, the chopper was hovering. Tough tough.

And my buddies ran in from the storm bearing down in Toledo yesterday, one of the other guides didn’t get out in time. An experienced Captain too.
