This state really is run by the biggest morons in the world. Louisiana sucks. Yet I still live in it so you can say I'm dumb and suck too.

You can only laugh at a statement like this. This is a prefect example of why capitalism is king. The government is the worst handlers of capital you could possibly conjur up. Guy who doesn't know anything about capital allocation flaming others who are incompetent in capital allocation. The taxpayer loses.

Cancellation of Mid-Barataria Diversion project
Happy to hear they shut down this waste of time and money.
The state needs to focus on manual land building. They're doing that on other parts of the coast and it works very well. The amount of land created for the cost and time scale is hilariously small.
In 45 years and billions later...

Yeah, it's only a difference of $300 million in state funds, no biggie

IIRC, sometime after Katrina the Corps of Engineers told Plaquemines Parish they couldn’t justify spending $4 billion, or whatever the huge number, to raise their levees from Belle Chase down to Venice to the same height as Nola, to protect a population of 25,000 people.
Katrina destroyed most of the marsh east of the river south of Delacroix, while coastal erosion has done the same for Barataria Bay. I have fished those areas for decades and the change from marsh to open water is remarkable and stunning.
That cat is out of the bag and not coming back to its former condition, even with the Diversion Project. Mardi Gras Pass, naturally created by the river on the east side, is a good example of how fresh water flow has rebuilt marsh in that area. To say we’ll do nothing, or dredge our way out of this as advocated by Nungesser et al, isn’t going to work.
The Diversion is a band aid but sorely needed. To say we’ll imperil the future of a million or so people for the wishes of 25,000 is not sound political leadership or wise. If it were in my power, I’d blow the levees somewhere south of Belle Chase and let the river do its thing, build land.
Do nothing and Nola Westbank levees in 50 years will be adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico, while Plaquemines Parish will be gone. New Orleans won’t be far behind, and it will be mostly open water between Baton Rouge and the Gulf.
We unfortunately live in a State that does political stupidity very, very well. At some point the Feds will quit bailing us out. Cancel the Diversion Project and you can kiss the coastline below Nola goodbye.

This guy absolutely does not look like the prototypical, greedy, gluttonous Louisiana politician. Not at all.

I’m a Louisiana Republican who will sign a recall effort if this is stopped.
I can’t emphasize the stupidity of Landry and this administration so far. The Republican Party of Louisiana should be ashamed.
I will vote for any Republican that runs against him at this point and he’s barely into his tenure.

Where is the governor on this? Oh, that’s right, he’s talking about LSU women and the national anthem

So.... how about a boycott?

This is a local power play, no different than Livingston, EBR, WBR, Ascension and Iberville all at some point in the past 3 decades torpedoing a new bridge for one reason or another.
Governors only have so much power when a parish says no. Hell in 2006 I believe the people of Brusly, Addis and Port Allen killed a bridge in favor of saving the Cinclair Sugarmill, now the bitch to the high heavens about traffic.
Last go around it was Ascension that killed it because of wetlands.
Now it is some ancient forestry coalition trying to kill the location.
People forget that politics is local and local parish do most of the screwing to the citizens of the state.

Should have just used this money to build ring levees around the population centers of Plaquemines Parish - of which there are few left - and just removed the levees in the remaining areas. Elevated Hwy 23 over these areas, and allowed the river to begin doing what it had done for millennia, without the need to build any diversion structures, per se.

What about the neighboring parishes that will (not might, will) suffer down the line for this stupidity?

Cancellation of this project will ensure Baton Rouge is the new coastline in 20 years

Just let thebfricking river flow where it was naturally meant to flow, and deal with whatever that brings. The experiment of controlling it is proven not to work

That seems fair, right? The contractors biggest mistake? He contracted with Loser-iana.

That fat frick has been at the trough for the last 40 years. Can you believe it? We’ve elected that fricking dipshit to something the last four fricking decades…
What a Louisiana thing to do.
