I'd also disagree with you if what's being reported is accurate. There's nothing inherently dumb about answering your own door with a firearm.
The video is out and you can watch the witness talk to the officer. There's really nothing to discuss.
You can argue that someone can answer the door with a gun and I'll show you this video all day and twice on sunday. This is what happens when you answer the door with a gun.
If I went to my neighbors house and he answered the door with a gun, I'd be absolutely fricking pissed

The cop violated his rights. I'm sure the cop will be fired. The cop probably deserves a limited amount of jail time. But how much? I mean 12 months? More than a year seems ridiculous this wasn't a violent criminal and likely won't happen again.
Negligent homicide.

at 430PM, when a cop has announced he's at your door?
Uh yeah, that is extremely dumb.

Given all of that, if more people answered the door with a gun like that then more people would get shot.
They shouldn't be shot.
That's the point...

I would be fricking freaked out if I knocked on someone's door, neighbor or not and they answered with a fricking gun in their hand.

So what. Your emotions don't negate my rights. That's especially true for a police officer.

Lol, you would be pissed by how someone chooses to excercise their rights in their own fricking home? Your space space was back on your property.

So if amazon drops his package at my door, I go over and bring it back to him, and he answers with his pistol? Yes, I'm pissed.
Its his right to have the gun.
Its my right to be pissed and never talk to the fricking jackass ever again.
I own over 10 guns. I'm not anti gun. I'm not anti carry. I'm anti being a jackass.

I love it when people claim to be pro 2A then crucify people that try to use it.
I love when people think you can do whatever the frick they want with a gun with no reprecussions and dont know how to be a responsible gun owner. You bring a gun out in any situation, and you've escalated the situation, regardless of the legal situation. That's the fact of what happens when a gun is present in any legal situation. As a gun owner, you should know this.

It does. Its not like it was 11pm at night and he woke him up. Or 3am in the morning and the guy was sleeping.
4:30pm, hell it could have been a delivery guy

But you wouldn’t be justified in shooting your neighbor. Neither is the cop. You should both face the same charges.

Your point isn't realistic in any world.
You can say "shouldn't be shot" all you want, and say how it's legal what he did. and you're right.
What you're saying is the same as idiot bike riders that think they own the road and want to prove a point with cars. Guess what dumbass, cars win over bikes 100% of the time, so you trying to prove your legal point is extremely stupid and life threatening. But go ahead and prove your legal point.
Let's all answer our door from now on with a gun in hand. Nothign bad should ever happen to anyone.

If you're first instinct at 430PM after someone knocks on your door is to get a gun, then i feel sorry for the life you live in where you deem that is necessary.
This statement is indicative of your lack of complex thinking. You are looking at the situation through YOUR lens and assuming we are too.
My situation is significantly different. I live in a gated neighborhood with 24 gate guards and 24 hour roving security. I have cameras that make it impossible for sneaky cop (or your stealthy FedEx guy) to hide from me. I also have obscured glass windows and sidelights in my door which would leave someone backlit in the daytime. Bottom line I could see him and he couldn't see me. My situational information is significantly higher in my home than he was in the apartment limited to nothing but a peephole.
That banging knock with a lack of announcement is clearly done by someone with serious intentions. That isn't a UPS knock or his buddy from round the way. When someone knocks like that and hides from view (which is 99.9% of the time intentional) if you have a gun, are proficient with it and don't retrieve it then why the hell do you even own a gun. Even at 4:30 in the afternoon. While criminals may prefer the night sometimes they need a fix at 4:30 and just can't wait until dark.
I get that the actions of the airman may not have been ideal when you have full awareness of what was going on outside the door but the calculus is different when this is your view of the situation:

Correct. I never said the cop was justified.
I also don't think the cop is a total bloodthirsty a-hole. I think the victim was an idiot. The cop had a quick trigger.
Its an unfortunate series of events preventable (like many of these) by both sides.
But one guys alive, the other is not.

I don't get your point in this thread. You don't think I should be able to answer my own door with a firearm without being worried about being killed? If you can be killed for exercising your rights, you don't have rights.
When a cop announces himself no it's not wise to open the door with a gun in your hand even if it is your right. It immediately escalates the situation and you get what you get as a result. If you got pulled over and brandished a gun even if legally allowed to do so do you not think that unwise ? I get the wanting to draw a line in the sand over your rights but a gun is a tool designed to kill and even if within your rights can and most likely will be taken as a threat.
