re: Wife is mad because I won't go to in laws twice in three weeks

Secretly, she doesn't want to make that many trips either. She just wants a way to blame you when her parents ask why you're not coming back again.

NTA, but it doesn’t matter. You need to understand how your decision impacts how your wife and in-laws will perceive you. Then, you will need to weigh your priorities to determine whether that hit is worth the difference in hassle. If you believe that hit to your reputation is worth it, then stand firm to set a clear boundary, explain it, and be consistent in it. She’ll show you how important your boundaries are based on her reaction.

OP is worthless. Not a big surprise.

Suck it up, when you married her, you married her family too. Pretty easy way to make her happy too.

What kinda pussy isn't going to rail his wife under her parents roof as much as possible to assert dominance?
The fries will still be there on Monday, and you'll be on your feet a lot so enjoy the 6 hours of sitting

So you just do whatever you wife/wife's family wants you to do?

We usually go for a weekend every 5 weeks or so and I feel like that's reasonable.
Damn. You're better than me. I sleep at my parents' house one night a year max, which is Christmas Eve. Granted, they're 40m away so I have the option to head home when I go over other times.
We definitely don't even visit every 5 weeks though, and we are close.

Not necessarily, but the scenario you laid out didn't really seem excessive.

I think you are NOT the ahole. She wants to do these things and feels like if you don't go she will feel embarrassed when they ask where you are. You even offered to do one or the other as a compromise but she wants it all. Just stand your ground if you really don't want to go. She's doing the emotional woman stance... manipulating etc. She's right in her head that you have to do everything she wants to do and can't see it from your perspective.
I suggest trying to explain how it feels from your perspective to her. Tell her you need some down time on the weekend after working all week. If she gets even madder.. perhaps time pay attention for other signs she's being weird. hahahaha. Divorce is fairly common these days.

That critter doesn't exist. There are plenty who will pretend otherwise but once the blow jobs get scarce and the pussy gets old he will also want to fart into the same recliner cushion all weekend long. No, you ain't the a-hole. I would bet that what happens you used to do this kind of shite to be nice and, of course, to increase the number of blow jobs received. The latter never happened, why should you be the one who has to hold up your end of the bargain.

For fricks sake. Stop being an asshold and go.

why would you not want to spend the weekend with your wife and kids? Who cares about the driving, you get to spend it with them, should be enjoyable.
Maybe I’m autistic, but I skip as much as possible. Time in the car is lost time.
I enjoy seeing family, but I miss lots of “special” days. There are just too many to go to all of them.
I also never expect/demand that anyone come to see me. When they do, I treat them very well.
I’m with you OP, spending all your weekends in the car for one more birthday, wedding, retirement, whatever is too much.
At some point, you are just going from event to event with no real joy associated with it.
Pick a weekend, not every weekend.
