You guys are acting like we didn't try to buy Williams or Barrow, the offers from LSU's side were there and by all accounts competitive until they weren't enough.

Texas balked at the amount of money Williams was asking for.

I never once said Williams shouldn’t get paid. But you absolutely can not make him the highest paid player on your roster.

We’re not talking about a Donald or Dorsey or Suh here.

So they weren’t competitive

There's obviously going to be NIL money, but why would you pay $1 million + for a player who couldn't crack the starting lineup on his previous team?

I hope you aren't talking about Williams or Barrow...

Why is this getting downvoted?

But I don’t mind getting over paid, says Coach Kelly.

Then we aren’t going to get them because everyone else is buying them.

What he’s saying is that “we’ll pay you what you’re worth but we’re not going to get stupid”

So why are we paying high school athletes millions of dollars? None of them have proven anything.

Ok so let’s say we pay Damonic Williams 1.5 for average defensive line play for one season.

Yeah let’s pay a guy for 6 months more than what Cortez Hankton and Brad Davis makes in a year

Then don’t look so desperate by saying stupid shite in early spring. I’m fine playing the youngsters and vets we have but Kelly goes and says how we desperately need DTs to the media. Thats a pretty stupid thing to say if your plan is to pay reasonably for portal guys.

Kelly is the 8th highest paid coach. Tell me how many head coaches paid more than him deserve more money than him? I can count 2.

1) Kirby Smart
2x national title, national runner up

2) Dabo Swinney
2x national title, 2x CFP runner up, 2x CFP semi-finalist

3) Kalen DeBoer
1x national runner up

4) Steve Sarkesian
1x CFP semi-finalist

5) Ryan Day
1x CFP runner up, 1x CFP semi-finalist

6) Lincoln Riley
3x CFP semi-finalist

7) Mike Norvell
Undefeated regular season

8) Brian Kelly
1x BCS runner up, 2x CFP semi-finalist, 2x Div 2 National Title, winningest active head coach

It's a real bad look when the head ball coach comes out and says "we're only targeting DT" and we swing and miss.

That, combined with the embarrassing calling BR video for DA-monic, Barrow to Miami and missing on the Wake CB... it's been a tough week
Are we going to have to go to a 3-3-5?

At least we still have 2025 class

And yet osu, ole miss and Texas are spending the money this year and will have teams finish much higher than us at the end of this coming season

Never heard of 95% of these players. Nothing but bribes and pay to play which is still supposed to be against the rules

I'd honestly like to see how well these high priced transfer players actually produce, and how long they actually stick around.

It’ll be curious to see how highly rated players pan out who entered college when NIL became a thing. Those already in college knew their expectations with 6-7 figures in their bank accounts.

Can these guys stay focused and contribute at a high level all thru college when they enter college with $$ loaded in their account?

That's fine, but it's also all on him if it doesn't work out with the guys he has.

He came out and publicly talked about how bad we need DL. I guess most of us thought he had control over how we were gonna accomplish that.

This sounds more like he had no idea this would happen. Which is pretty frickin frustrating.

Well Keon Coleman and Fisk both crushed last year for FSU but interesting thought nonetheless

Great, great point Cotton! BK is so far ahead of the curve with setting his precedent on what he will pay and will not pay. Going forward that does nothing but help him and the team out down the road.

Currently players have all the power and can hold schools hostage for more money. NCAA opened Pandora’s box and needs to figure out a way to at least protect schools somewhat. I am old school and thing a scholarship and all the extra benefits including living stipends were payment enough for these kids, but I get change too.

There needs to be contracts and there needs to be restrictions on transfers again ASAP. Make kids sign 2 year contracts with schools essentially to get/keep NIL and then after 2 years they can free transfer.
