LSU/Tulane Professors present a proposed congressional map

LINK
Shockingly, it actually makes sense and, for the most part, follows existing parish boundaries.
But, it doesn't guarantee a black district, so I am sure it's a no go because it is NOT race-based.

By guaranteeing a black district, how is that Constitutional? Has this "guarantee" ever been challenged?

BATON ROUGE — A collection of four LSU and Tulane professors suggested a new congressional district map Monday that would serve as a compromise between a map created in 2022 and the proposed map that would give the state a second majority-Black district.
According to a court filing, the LSU-Tulane coalition's map would remedy multiple problems the proposed map has. The coalition's map — titled Amicus — includes two crossover districts based in New Orleans and Baton Rouge where Black voters have a fair opportunity to elect candidates.
However, the map proposed Monday has no majority-Black districts.
The filing also notes that the suggested map is not overly race-conscious.
The map is DOA. If there's even a hint it could get serious consideration, Gravy, the NAACP, etc. will be out in front of the cameras screaming about how it's going to allow blacks to be lynched in the streets.

This would create more competitive districts. Doubt any sitting members would want that.
As far as minority districts, it may not guarantee 2 dem seats but it gives you a shot at winning more than 2.

Oh wow Calcasieu gets fricked in that map, as usual
It's getting time to admit that NLA should only get 1 district.

We all know the political stripe of university profs. They don’t have to provide a minority district to win.

That’s the thing. So many folks want to say it’s only Republicans supporting Gerrymandering in a red state like Louisiana; however, the Democrat Congressman(men) in power want it Gerrymanded as well, especially whomever is the sitting Congressman in the 2nd Congressional district.

I get why you say that, but looking at the picture in the above link, it might be the least Gerrymandered map Louisiana has had in a long time. There’s no mark of zoro for Cleo Fields and other shady shite like that.
Compact as possible districts, adhering to parish/county boundaries as much as possible is the way every single state’s Congressional districts should be drawn.

Friend,
What does Mother say about this map? It brings to mind Grandfather carrying me into the voting booth in the days of the old lever machines.

It would be the perfect map to kill VRA gerrymandering once and for all.

They need to hand this over to the math nerds.
Seems like a computer could spit out an objective map based on location and population pretty easily.
Take the politician factor out of drawing lines.

Since we lost a seat, the only real question is how do you spli up north and central La. N.O., N.O. Suburbs, B.R., coastal, s.west, are naturally aligned, compact districts.

this is all pissing in the wind, the real fight will be when we lose another seat in the 2030 census

Yep. But they will let the NAACP et all eat that bullet.
If that map goes to trial, it probably tosses race based gerrymandering at the Supreme Court level.
