Heading to Montego Bay in October but wondering what is worth the time to see off of the resort?

Jamaica is pretty dangerous . I wouldn’t get too far from the resort if at all .

A different resort?
Seriously, though, twenty years ago, there were still a couple of decent tourist shopping areas around that you could visit. I don't know if those still exist.

When in Jamaica, don’t leave the resort or golf course.

Went to Dunn’s river falls on honeymoon 5 years ago and never felt unsafe. Pretty cool tour

Dunn's River Falls is in Ocho Rios, about an hour and a half from Montego Bay. We did have fun climbing it.

Stay at the resort. I did not feel safe in surrounding areas.

Jamaica is very third world outside of the resort areas. I’d urge against leaving the property

We took an excursion to the luminous lagoon and it was a lot of fun. Also went and played golf and that was fantastic as well

Everyone's mileage varies, but I found the prevailing wisdom in this thread to be untrue when I visiited Jamaica.
The big resort cities/towns (Mo Bay, Negril, Ocho and just don't go to Kingston period) do feel unsafe and have a lot of tourist hassling occurring, because the people there have a parasitic relationship with tourists. When you get away from the big tourist draws, the Jamaican people are wonderful.
That being said for Mo Bay: Dunn's River Falls or Blue Hole are the most frequent daytrips, I believe. Any of those popular day trips are going to involve a lot of people tryiing to sell you crap and being very pushy about it, though because they're tourist areas.

Was coming to say this - it was awesome. We did the ziplines and bobsled too. It was a guided tour through our resort (Sandals).

What hogfly said. Don't believe the hype.
I've been to Jamaica 15 times and have never stayed at anything resembling a resort.
I was there for three weeks in February, rented a car and did a loop around the entire island, including Kingston.
If you're with your family a trip to YS Falls and an Appleton Estate rum tour is worth doing. If you're with friends just a simply country pub crawl is a blast too.

Also, to add to what TommyCheeseballs said, you need to get some jerk chicken/oxtails/beef patties from a street vendor away from the resort.

Take a private shuttle to Doctors Cave Beach for the day. Just check the port schedule to make sure no cruise ships are scheduled in that day. Will be packed if a cruise ship is in port.

all kinds of stuff to go see. we hung out at rosehall beach. then we went on a boat and went snorkeling. was a blast. pay no mind to the chicken littles in this thread who are scared to go anywhere there.

Don't even need to leave the resort for that.

Or the airport for that matter
