"Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some will depart from the Faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils." 1 Timothy 4

I’m glad someone made this thread.
I’m sad because I found a church with people I really like and they’re UMC. I was figuring I could look past what happens at the general conference as long as my home church doesn’t have queer clergy, but there was a little something else passed today.
There was a ban on using church funds to support groups that are pro-LGBT. That was lifted.
In its place, there is now a ban on using church funds to support groups that are anti-LGBT.
The horse is out of the barn- modern Protestantism has largely turned into a left wing political apparatus. If you tithe at any centralized Anglican-descended mainstream church, your tithes are funding pro-lgbt groups.
Southern Baptists and Roman Catholics hate each other but are the last vestiges of true Christianity. They may not agree on how to be a Christian, but they sure as shite agree on what makes you a sinner.

Kind of surprised the UMC big tent held together for as long as it did.
Hard to fathom that a Hilary Clinton and a John Kennedy can both be members of the same church org.

As other posted. Methodist church recently split into two factions due to this crap. The original Methodist church got taken over by the gays and ruined. So a bunch of individual churches have left and no longer have to pay those crooks. They had to all buy there own land/church back though, which is complete bullshite. My parents church is one of the ones that recently left.

There are some Baptist congregations that accept this Gay stuff but, not the Southern Baptists.

How can they condone someone living in sin this way?
Just curious do you not live in sin? Or does it only count if it’s that way?

There’s sin, and then there’s living in sin, and then there’s encouraging sin.
What changes the UMC made amounts to encouraging and condoning sin by denying it is sin. The changes aren’t saying “we know this is sin but it’s okay, come to church we accept all”. The changes are saying “being gay isn’t a sin, all human sexuality is to be celebrated”

It all started with allowing women to minister
Certainly in the Episcopal Church in the United States this is a large part of it. The roots go deeper and farther back. Abandonment of Holy Scripture. Casting away basic orthodox Christian beliefs and teachings. A total lack of discipline respecting heretical teachings and practices. Infiltration of the seminaries to teach heterodox content and at the diocese level keep traditional orthodox men out of the seminaries and away from influential positions within the denomination.
Do these things and it’s not long before your denomination ordains women priests, makes an active homosexual man (divorced from his wife and living in sin with his male lover) a Bishop, and performs and blesses homosexual marriages.
Modestly calling themselves The Episcopal Church, they have become apostate and can hardly be called part of Christ’s church.

Makes sense if you're a believer. Everything you are saying requires a belief in those tenets, so I guess that's where we differ.
You stated I’m not religious and believers are hypocrites. I gave an explanation of why they are not hypocrites. Then you stated it doesn’t matter what you say I don’t believe. The grounds of your argument was not believing. Which you returned to after being given a logical response.

There was a thread here recently about sex for fun vs. sex for procreation. Are we saying that every married preacher (Baptist, Episcopalian, Methodist, etc) only has sex for procreation purposes and never for enjoyment? B/c if they do... they are living in sin according to many people's beliefs.
I’m leaning towards this being a non-sequitur, and I didn’t elude to or say anything you are deducting from my statement. My best guess would be for you to ask a preacher the next time you are in the presence of one.

What about fat priests/preachers?
I answered this back on page 4. You seem to take a lot of issue with clergy.

What do you mean "started" allowing gay preachers? The Catholic church has allowed this for centuries.
Posted on 5/1/24 at 7:36 pm to nealnan8
They’ve started allowing openly gay, practicing homosexuals.
The Catholic Church absolutely does not permit that.

Time to never walk into a church I guess because if it hasn't happened in a particular denomination it will eventually. No need for a gay preacher to act like their sexuality is explicitly prohibited in the text I can read myself
It's like a liquor store running AA meetings
Isn't that the very definition of not practicing what you preach

You don’t get to lump all together

Because gay men are more anal retentive about getting behind tasks. They can push through all the shite of daily life.

There were some large UMC that left too...I know I was a member at one and there have been many others....Also even though a lot of UMC still remain a lot of members have left and taken their money with them...Got news...the 50 plus folks give much more than the younger folks do..
The UMC is hurting financially...due to the losing of memberships. There are a lot of things going on within the UMC....The powers that be within the UMC have been shocked at the uproar this has caused....Believe me.

In the Dallas area the large methodist Church in Plano and the big one in the Southlake area both left. These are thriving churches.
From what I have seen driving around the rich parts of Dallas it seems like most of the Methodist churches in town stayed.
In Houston, I know the big one in the Woodlands left. Idk about the rest.
Overall this is going to really hurt the UMC money wise.

What's happened is a lot of churches have stayed waiting on the vote....Now the vote has happened watch many more leave...And the ones that don't leave will have several members leave the church...With their money and support.....
Another thing....When this all started it wasn't hard for churches to leave and keep their property at a fair price....With the explosion that the church heads didn't think would happen did happen....they had to do something to stop the bleeding. They made it much harder for churches to leave and made it damn harder to retain the property....Thus making it hard for 500....1,000...or more church goers to just walk away with no church building to go to.
