st.louis cardinals selecting john lee, kicker from ucla
you dont draft a kicker that high in 1st round, and he had NEVER kicked on the grass. Always from a tee.
he failed miserably

Don’t have a favorite NFL team these days, but I grew up idolizing Jerry Rice, therefore rooting for the 49ers when he was with them. I remember:
Dexter Carter being taken with their 25th overall pick in 1990 as they were desperate to replace and find the new Roger Craig.
JJ Stokes, they traded up from last (won the Super Bowl) to get him with the tenth pick of the ‘95 draft. They thought they had their new Jerry Rice. They passed on Ty Law, Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp. Though maybe with Young and Stubblefield, Sapp wouldn’t have been too much a difference for them that season.

Those Jets picks back in the day were pretty bad. Lam Jones, Jeff Lageman, and Kyle Brady come to mind.

Ravens taking Travis Taylor with the 10th overall pick in 2000. I remember looking at the guy’s stats and noticing that he finished a distant second in receptions and receiving yards to Travis McGriff and Darrell Jackson during his sophomore and junior seasons. McGriff and Jackson weren’t considered first round talents and ended up being drafted in the third round. So what made this guy who was a clear #2 to those guys a top 10 worthy pick? And sure enough, he ended up being terrible.

Not a huge Bears fan but I grew up in Chicago, Kevin White was absolute arse. What a bum.

Pretty much every AL Davis pick when he had one foot in the grave.
Todd Marinovich is the poster child but he was worth a gamble @ #24.
But Darrius Heyward-Bey @ #7? How this guy milked a career in the NFL was purely based on speed and constant hope.

quote:
In 2010, Heyward-Bey started 14 of the 15 games in which he played. He had 26 receptions for 366 yards and one touchdown..
Heyward-Bey appeared in 14 games for the Steelers in 2018, making two starts. He finished the season with one reception for 9 yards. The Steelers elected not to re-sign Heyward-Bey following the 2018 season.

Aaron curry
Seahawks
At the time, signed for the most guaranteed money ever for a non qb rookie
Traded year 3 for a 7th round pick. Flamed out a year later.
Looked him up: for any Steelers fans, apparently a decade plus later he's now the inside LB coach for your Pittsburgh Steelers

Jake Locker as a top 10 pick. GMs go crazy over measurable and don’t look at the film.

The Falcons have too many to list, but just first round picks in the last 10 years....
Pitts
Bijan
Penix
Takk McKinley
Keanu Neal
The top line on Keanu Neal's scouting report was that he delivered violent hits to the receiver after he made the catch. When you're picking a defensive back in the top half of the first round, his best trait better not be what he does AFTER the WR makes the catch. He's supposed to prevent the catch from happening.

Not the worst really, but I remember watching the first day of the ‘05 draft, in which the Broncos only had 1pick. It was the last pick of the 3rd round (last pick of the day) and they pick Maurice Clarett, who hadn’t played football in 2 years.

Cedric Ogbuehi in the first is pretty bad, John Ross in the top 10 wasn’t any better.
Edit: Forgot about Akili Smith

Junior Siavii and Trazelle Jenkins, I believe both were 1st round picks. Siavii died at age 43 in Leavenworth penitentiary.

Did the Rams pick the crazy lb from Notre Dame. The fake girl friend guy.

The Eagles have two in recent memory. Under Chip Kelly, after an awesome season with Mike Vick as our QB, we draft in the 1st round a 26 year old Canadian firefighter as offensive guard having only started playing football at the age of 22.
Then there's the pick that still pisses me off. With Justin fricking Jefferson and Brandon Aiyuk still on the board, we decide to select Jalen Reagor. Reagor, over Justin Jefferson
