Seems like only yesterday when we reached peak stupidity

Nicholson is almost entirely in the city. And now with this judgement at minimum everything north of Perkins will annex into BR. The path has been laid. Congrats on your Walmart off Bluebonnet and higher than giraffe pussy property taxes to pay for your contract with the Sheriffs office and Dpw to provide basic services. Ask Central how that’s worked out for them.

lol why are you so mad that a group of people want something different than what that disaster of a Mayor is giving them?

Some parts of this transition should be fast but I’m curious how quickly the school system transitions. Truly a great day for those in St George. Thank you Sharon for being THE reason we are a city now and not just a school district.

Huge drainage issues in SE EBR, yet we keep paving areas that were soaking up rainfall or impounding it, replaced by a “retention pond” the size of a kiddie pool, that some malpracticing engineer stamped off on, and then wonder why Bayou Fountain is running backwards during heavy rainfall events
Or expecting Iberville to deal with the consequences of such shitty planning and actions.
And being surprised when their parish president didn't just roll over.
They think Mitchell was a pain... Good god.

I will say it again, you NIMBYs are the worst. You know nothing about the oridinances or engineering. Always pull out the boogeyman, apartments. Do you realize everyone cant afford a $500k house? In the NIMBY mind, that should be the bottom of the housing stock. Development is called progress, without it, there would be no St. George in the first place.

School system can’t transition until the state legislature funds it.
That may change soon between composition of the legislature and new laws coming down the pike about ISDs and the requirements to get one.

Blight isn't caused by apartments. That's just a symptom when an area starts to deteriorate and disinvestment occurs. Whether apartments are in the area or not has nothing to do with it. Apartments don't lower property values. Crime exists at the same rate in older single family home areas that have become government funded.

We already pay a tax for the sheriff so nothing changes, nice talking point though.
For reference go read in the brief where the Sheriff addressed this.

The more likely outcome is those areas will wait and see what happens with St.G.
If it becomes the shitshow its detractors assure us it will, they'll likely go to BR. If it doesn't, they could opt for the new kid in town.
I eagerly await MOP rushing to Gardere to beg them to request annexation into City of BR.

quote:bullshite. Take a look at crime heat maps in Jefferson parish. Notice how many points there are in the areas that are mainly apartments.

How about the three jackasses that were willing to set this crazy precedent by voting against it. They literally hate everything about this country, the rule of law and the constitution. They are no better than the mayor and the lower court idiots. Be careful who you vote for going forward. Even if you were opposed to St. George, it was a legal and legitimate election, and it should scare the hell out of everybody. That’s so many people were willing to overturn it, Especially people in power.

Major FAFO for BR government.
As an AP resident, I’m glad we have a buffer to BR now

Griffin didn't surprise me.
Crichton did.
Weimer has been a major disappointment, but based on his questioning during the oral argument, I was not surprised by his dissent.
The upside of this is these positions (majority and dissent) are so rigid, the chances of a grant of rehearing are negligible. But I am sure the anti-SG people will ask for one to delay this even further.

Who has standing?
Based on the appellate case, all but Lamont Cole were dumped.
Based on the SC ruling, Cole was dumped.
It would have to be someone within St George with standing and several other qualifications. And it can’t be MOP because she was already dumped IIRC.

I can’t imagine them ruling, only to grant a rehearing,

No they won’t. There was nothing preventing them from requesting annexation before now. The city of BR can not just unilaterally annex places, it has to be requested. There is an actual legal process. They wil never meet the requirements for the areas north of Perkins.

Even then, they narrowed pretty hard who even has standing to contest the issue.
Part of why SWB was crying was that she knows she will immediately be tossed as a plaintiff due to standing since she was tossed at a lower level court for that reason.

This is a case where I see both sides lose.
BR loses a major tax base, which could be the final nail in the coffin as it heads to Jackson, MS status.
The folks I’ve spoken with who led the St. George initiative are naive clowns who have no idea what they are getting into.
