“Pick me up” was in all its glory in Fort Worth

I couldn’t help recalling the words Tim Lanier told Warren Morris in the bottom of the 9th after Tim had struck out and Warren was headed to the plate with two outs. He said “pick me up.” We all know what happened next.
KJ and Savannah, each of whom had contributed so much all season, had their own “strike outs” yesterday, but were then picked up by their teammates. That string of hit routines with everything on the line was epic. Congratulations ladies!

The ladies performed best when it counted and was needed the most, they absolutely picked each other up!

Didn’t see it, but that sounds cool as hell.

I was at that 1996 CWS final game and remember that incident well.
Your point of bringing that up concerning yesterday’s gymnastics final was spot on. Our ladies definitely “picked up “ each other and a championship resulted.

Those beam performances in that situation can’t be underestimated. I mean they did that on the absolutely hardest event. That was like hitting multiple HRs in a comeback run to win in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs. McClain doing what she did after that fall and Finnegan just bringing them home with authority was just Incredible with that much pressure.

I couldn't even stand still watching Aleah Finnegan do her routine with the natty on the line. I don't know how that girl was able to keep it together.

They absolutely rocked the beam when everything was on the line. The pressure was immense. Great job ladies! We all celebrate with you!

Out of the mud grows the lotus. These moments were the culmination of two years of learning to look adversity in the eye and kick it in the arse. Something happened within this program during the three days between Kiya's injury at Kentucky and the Monday MLK day meet against Oklahoma. After losing one of their two super stars the team could have thrown in the towel and given up on their goals for the season. Instead they found the resolve to rely on each other to make up for Kiya's absence. They almost beat the number one team in the country that Monday and went on to make it to Four on the Floor giving several gymnasts valuable experience in that environment. This team has not backed down since that weekend despite injuries, personal rough spots in performance and venomous attacks from supporters of other programs. This team was in attack mode all year and finally broke through to the championship room.

I was standing up right in front of my TV watching Finnegan. That skill where she back flips 3x made me hold my breath. I thought she was running out of room and going to fall off the end beam at the end of that.
Whew!
Unreal performance when it counted most.

Same here. It was physically and mentally exhausting to watch her. She took some deep breaths with the National Championship on her shoulders and got the job done. It was downright incredible! Her mental and physical stamina was something else.

As a 60 yr old, life-long LSU fan, I've seen some clutch performances in the moment from our tigers, but I'm not sure I've ever seen more sustained "clutchness" than we witnessed from the 4 ladies on the beam after that fall! The stress of each routine, live or die, like 4 Hodson to Fuller tds in a row, 4 Morris bombs, 4 Cade York 57-yd game winners in the fog... to win a natty?!
The sustained excellence by those 4 athletes deserves a special place in LSU history!

Great point. All these examples were do or die, but with a first time national championship on the line is just fantastic and just will add to the mystique as time goes by. Another super chapter in Tiger lore!

Congrats to the ladies but this isn't anywhere close to what Warren Morris did

Well said and I agree wholeheartedly.

You are totally wrong. I watched the Morris HR and have watched it many times since then. It has to be the greatest CWS ending ever! This was the exact same situation for LSU Gymnastics. The only difference was that each of the four ladies came up with the game on the line and each one delivered a HR of a routine (9.5 or better) to win a National Championship!

If gym was a bigger sport, that beam rotation would easily be ranked as one of the greatest championship moments ever in sports history.
I know they are girls, but that was iceberg-sized balls they had.

In recent years, the beam has always been viewed as LSU’s kryptonite. No longer.

And it add a little more drama, did I hear this right? The highest score for LSU on the beam in school history? Incredible to do that under so much pressure.
