BR judge finds former BRPD cop guilty of charge that doesn’t exist

Then judge Eboni Johnson decides to find him not guilty after lawyers questioned her about it.
She said the witness wasn’t credible even though GPS puts the cop where she said the crime happened. He turned off his camera, wasn’t suppose to be in that area at all according to his supervisors. And lied to two LSU cops that arrived on scene to assist and had them leave.
Not a good look for BRPD or judge Eboni….

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A post-conviction debacle in the 19th Judicial District was settled after a district judge chose to acquit a former officer of sexually inappropriate behavior with a woman he was sworn to protect and serve.
District judge Eboni Johnson Rose threw out malfeasance charges against former Baton Rouge Police officer Donald Steele Jr. Thursday, April 18, after she initially convicted him on the charge in late March.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys asked for that judgment to be put on hold one day after the judge issued the verdict.
At issue, they argued that the judge convicted Steele of “misdemeanor” grade malfeasance even though the charge is considered a felony in state law. Misdemeanor grade malfeasance does not exist.

My God this is terrible on so many counts- poor girl gets assaulted and guy gets 100% off because Judge is clueless. I need to look up the Judge to see how this could have happened. She is no doubt and Ivy league scholar and I am sure she is not an obese benefactor of DEI

Not DEI. She graduated from Southern Law.

Haven’t you figured it out yet? There are 4-6 that control north of Fla Blvd in Baton Rouge. It’s no accident Johnson was the Judge here.

At what point are you removed from the bench?

Or the poor girl lied and was trying to screw the man over (no pun intended) as the article suggests. Was he doing things he shouldn't have been doing on the job, probably.. but it sounds like she probably regretted whatever happened and got exposed in court by the defense.

For some reason I think the judge knew what she was doing

Is Trudy White still on the bench?

Take a look at the name and you can infer a lot.
IIRC, this particular moron is taking up where Trudy White left off with regards to fricking up criminal cases.

Elected position in this state… as long as these idiot judges campaign to the right demographics, they return to office indefinitely.

Having a misspelled name should bar you from such a position

When their constituents vote them out or they retire.
Such is the perils of an elected judiciary. This particular judge is part of the Johnson family cabal that currently runs the 19th JDC. None of them are going anywhere until death or election to a Circuit Court.

Can’t find any pics of the Don Johnson trophy awarded for the Blood Alcohol Championship Series by Red Schtick.

Same judge - November '21:
Accused murderer couldn't afford bond supervision, new judge removes restrictions
He eventually plead guilty to manslaughter and Judge Rose sentenced him to 12 years.
quote:
A brand new judge, who prided herself on giving suspects second chances in her online campaign videos last year, unleashed an accused murderer without any monitoring requirements in July, the WBRZ Investigative Unit uncovered.
It wasn't a problem for Judge Eboni Johnson Rose until suspect Billy Pettice held a gun to his girlfriend's head and tried to choke her on Nov. 11, 2021. Investigators said he took things a step further on Saturday and shot out the windows of her car as two children were inside.
quote:
Court records show Pettice posted a $175,000 bond after he was charged in the murder of his then-girlfriend Dedawn Bush in 2018. In July, emails obtained by the WBRZ Investigative Unit show Pettice could not afford his bond supervision, so Judge Rose relieved him of his monitor and supervision.
quote:
In Pettice's case, his rap sheet was a good indicator of the trouble he's caused in the past. Multiple arrests dating back more than a decade for murder, armed robbery, burglary and theft.

That was never mentioned in the article. It said that he propositioned her. Did they leave that out or is that just an unconfirmed rumor/misunderstanding?

Cop - Omega Psi Phi fraternity
Judge - Delta Sigma Theta sorority
Google the connection between the two organizations, then ask yourself why the Cop waived a jury and asked for the Judge to decide.

Sounds like a reason to bring up the judge on corruption charges for allowing him to be tried on a charge that doesn’t exist only to change it to an acquittal.
IMHO, the whole thing should have been a mistrial given how badly she fricked up.
