My oldest daughter is 19 and loves to shop (which one doesn’t) and spends frivolously. I preach saving over spending and I’m sure in due time it will click…but it hasn’t yet.
Her mom (ex-wife) lives paycheck to paycheck on nearly 100k a year when her only true obligations are 2 car loans, a loan I lent her, and insurance for two cars and she’s eternally stressed because she’s “broke”. I drive a 9 year old vehicle and my wife drives 7 year old vehicle whereas her mom is getting a new vehicle every year or two.
To prove a point, I showed her my cap one dashboard with all of my info (sans brokerage and investment accounts)to show her I may be driving hoopties, but I’m singing money, money, moneyyy while doing so.
The old adage “money doesn’t buy happiness” is only partially true. Money may not buy happiness but it sure the hell greases the wheels.
Aside from that, I call my brother when I get my bonus but that’s just competition… he does the same to me.

Do you open your checking/savings in front of family and friends to show off?

Shiii. I want people to think I have LESS money than I have. Keeps the “borrowers” away.

I send them info for HYSA/CMA/etc., that pay a lot better than their normal banks, but rarely does anyone care. Generally, I discuss finances in the abstract, and never really discuss what I do, outside of "I like buying the whole market".

No. Why the hell would I do that. Ever heard of TMI? Some things need to stay private.

Freshmen year of college I was bringing this girl home and she needed to grab some cash. Stopped at the atm and she had me punch it in. Her balance... Over 200k.
I did not pull out.

What your cousin do? The checks are probably fake unless it’s a cashiers check

Yes, and I flash big wads of cash, but it's always those fake Confederate dollar bills that you buy at TG&Y.

No, but I pull out my pecker when they’re down and need a good laugh. Family first.

I try to look like I don't have any money so family don't ask to borrow. It doesn't seem to work though.

No, but I haven't overdrawn since I got sober.
