Let’s just open the flood gates now, might as well. Why not unlimited transfers in a year? When a player gets benched at Bama, let him find a starting spot at Auburn the next week
Kids will be used as spies to get playbook info

It will never be the same, that’s for sure.
But as long as people keep watching, they’ll allow the athletes to extract value without guardrails. Kill the TV contracts because people stop watching, and it crumbles. That’s the only way.

It’s completely insane but they are bowing to the reality that no matter how many fans get on message boards and complain about it being the destruction of the sport, restraint of movement absent mutually agreed to contractual agreements to regulate it will not pass federal court muster. This is as much a zillion dollar business as it is a sport now, and sports people aren’t going to have the final say over how it’s resolved. It is what it is.

The courts are driving this car now, and before anyone tries to spin this as liberal vs. conservative the Supreme Court case that got this rolling was 9-0. It was as tight as a drum, no air in it.
This is the inevitable outcome of it becoming a zillion dollar business.

frick it. Just let transfer week to week. Portal Mondays.
You joke but I wouldn’t be shocked if some time soon we see advocates for mid-season transfers.

Josh Pate has been saying in his last 2 pod casts that "utter chaos" is coming in the next portal window. Coaches are telling him that in the next window it's "going to be the circus of all circuses". "Some whole units could transfer". One coach is holding his star defensive player out of Spring practice because he is not sure the player will be on the roster next Fall. "Some programs will be losing big names". When is the next window?

What?
Every pro sport has players under contract for multiple years. Why can’t college players be under contract too?

What necessitated declaring it an emergency meeting?

It will never happen but would be satisfying for the power 5 coach’s to refuse to take portal players. It would be a net positive instead of everyone playing the portal game and everyone getting fricked by the same 20% of players.
There is a balance somewhere with the NIL and transfer rules, but this is a huge step in the wrong direction

Because they’re not employees. That is a threshold that has not been crossed yet, but thats the path we are on.

College coaches are basically spending their time babysitting these days.

wouldn't be able to transfer mid-year and play for a second school in the same season.

Coaches aren’t in the business of committing seppuku. They will adapt.

College football is about to get a major helping of chaos in about a week that we have never seen before. The chaos is in the numbers and level of intensity. Most players have all been contacted by other schools through contacts these days and they know that the moment they dip their toe in the pool the bidding starts. Let me repeat that for the believe it when I see it crowd when the bidding starts.
Hugh Freeze's interview with Pate was sad. He looked depressed and sounded confused. He knew he would lose multiple players after the spring and said he didn't have a clue who the barn is until that portal closed. He is no different than all the other head coaches who have a long list of players they know are leaving and a long list of guys they hope to bring in. A different chaos is coming to the SEC in a matter of days.

Oh mid-season transfers are absolutely coming. I can already see the argument: how can we artificially restrict these young scholars' earning potential just because an arbitrary season has started? Hell, let them transfer at halftime if their team is losing

Let’s just call college football what it is now.
The NFL minor leagues, complete with salaries (NIL) and free agency. It sucks, but legally speaking, the ship has sailed.

Just need to leave the NCAA and the SEC/B1G could create a football league of their own without all of this nonsense.
