The only way LSU could defend Clark was to assign Johnson to cover her tightly before she got the ball to limit her # of shots or passes she makes. After she catches the ball she either scores or gets fouled.

It really was the wrong decision. Clark scored 40 both times she guarded her. (Once at Louisville)
She’s a good bit shorter plus not nearly as quick. Big time mismatch.
Reminds me of one time when Larry Bird said it insulted him when they put a white guy on him lol.
With that being said though, I expect had they went with Flau'jae guarding her, she would have gotten quickly into foul trouble much like Poa did when she was on her.
Clark is going to make some amazing shots no matter who is on her. Iowa beat us down the floor many times and we did not guard the other role players very well either.
They were the better team tonight.
Plain and simple.

If anyone breathed on Clark too hard, they got called for a foul.
Poa had two quick imaginary fouls called on her guarding Clark. After her third foul it reduced all her effectiveness.
There were not many options to slow down Clark. Clark was on fire and the refs poured gasoline on anyone guarding her.
HVL was overmatched but the tight calls on anyone guarding Clark made everyone look foolish.

What game were you watching? I wish our fans can both win and lose with class. The refs are usually assholes to us, but in this game they did not treat either team with favoritism.
First of all Clark is in a class all by herself. She led them early as she was responsible for either scoring or assists in the first 15 of 17 points for Iowa. LSU did close in and make a comeback, while Clark missed a few shots and had 3 turnovers in just a few minutes time due to pressure defense and LSU took a nice lead, then tied at halftime.
Great first half, but the second half, Clark's super range and superior passing just gutted our lady Tigers and they got outplayed by a better TEAM! The passes from full court, half court, or set screen & roll plays.
Clark had 41 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds and shot 29 times (20 3's and 9 other), hitting on 9-20 (45%) from 3's that she was making from 26, 27, 28 or more feet (Unbelievable)
Well, the gas you are referring is bullshite as she was only 6-7 from the free throw line... For someone that active shooting, 7 FT are not that much. Her teammate had 6 FT and another 4 FT.
For LSU, Reese took 21 FG attempts (Mostly ALL Alligator-Armed, shoot from the hip Jesse James Crap she always does) and she had 8 FT, therefore, she had a higher percentage of FT to shots taken than Clark.
Clark % of FT to Shots 6/29 = 21%
Reese % of FT to Shots 8/21 = 38%
So, take your bullshite reach for refs pouring gasoline by giving Clark all the calls and like she lived on the FT line.... She did not have too, because she was raining 3's from the MOON!! Or, making amazing passes to her teammates who were active and cutting to the hoop.
Reason why LSU lost is this:
Clark's 41 points and 12 assists, and team ball movement
FG%- Iowa 46%, LSU 38%
3 Pt%- Iowa 42% LSU 33%
FT%- Iowa 77%, LSU 65%
Should have put Johnson guarding Clark (more speed as HVL too short and slow). Sure, she may have fouled out but Clark with 12 less points would have been a huge difference.

If lsu capitalized on their +16 offensive rebounding, made 2 extra layups, and hustled back on defense for 2 fewer layups by Iowa, that's 8 points and an lsu win.
4 buckets all game.
4 drives instead of poa or HVL 3's.
4 feeds to the post vs long range jumpers by morrow.
Lsu had a terrible shooting night. That's why they lost.

Because had we not gotten into foul trouble and shite the bed scoring first half of the 4th, Big 4 was gunna lock Clark down the last 3 minutes and she was gunna go cold. Which she did.
We just fell behind 14 which is too much.
2 logo 3 pointers and an assist from Clark was the difference. Literally. LSU rolls that team by 30 without Clark. They scored damn near 90.

Good season. A few missed free throws (bricked a few), a few poor shots (mid range jumpers that were ill advised) and a few threes (bricked plenty) and its an even or better game.
Clark was lights out, but game was still in reach.
Offensive guard play sort of off from last year and it made the difference.
Why skip the anthem? Not intentional? Refs give an
in person time reminder to both locker rooms...

Should have played a triangle and 2, with woman up on Martin and Affolter! They are the two that beat LSU! Clark had her normal scoring game, but the other 2 were the difference.
Nothing ever creative with Mulkey's defensive approach.

Flau did guard her, and got cooked every time. No one was stopping CC

HVL looked horrible on D to start the game. She was beaten 3 times in 3 minutes. Kim knew she fricked up and pulled HVL after 3 minutes to try to wake her up.

This was a good team not great, if Reese comes back and Mulkey finds a true point they will challenge again for a title

Honestly! Do you want HVL back ?

Not much you can do about a player draining 3s from 30 feet away. Especially when she can also beat anybody 1v1 if they come out too far to guard her.
Eta: I agree, the refs were fine. If anything they let too much go.

My guess is Kim knew she needed Flaujae’s offense and didn’t want to wear her out chasing a shooter.
She knew what she’d get from HVL on offense and told her to focus on the other end.

You could play denial defense full court to keep her from getting the ball in the first place.
You could double team her in the half court set. Yes, this is extreme, but Kim could've tried any of these things for a possession or two just to see what might work.
Sure, Clark is a great player and will get her points, but if we hold her to her average, we win.
What Kim was doing clearly wasn't working. Change it up!! Make any other Iowa player beat you.

I think the best change would hav

I woulda told Poa to foul the shite out of Clark. Not to injure her and nothing dirty, but if the refs are calling bs calls I’m telling my player to make the fouls count. Smack the frick out of Clark when she drives.

Poa wasn't any better. They might have tried Johnson earlier in the game, but she didn't have success guarding her later in the game. Guess there is a reason Clark led the nation in scoring.
This thread is stupid. Just more griping from ignorant fans.
