The problem wasn’t VL. The problem was the defense off the ball. We were destroyed all night in transition and pick and rolls. Clarke would have scored 35 whom ever guarded her. Letting the other 4 8th grade rated players score 50+ is what lost us the game defensively

When we started getting stops in the 2nd Quarter it was because we were running Clark off the three point line, playing help defense on her when she drives and forcing her to kick the ball out. This should have been the game plan the entire game. Both Poa and Van Lith were too slow to chase on top of screens. 4 or 5 of Clarks 3pt came with those two chasing. We needed to switch on every ball screen and force her to drive. Clark's hole in her game is the mid-range. Force her to take 15 foot jump shots or kick to someone else.

I would have doubled Clark on the pick more. At least switch it up and make her think more. We only did it like 2 times at the end of the game. 1 time lead to a turnover.

agreed. What we were doing clearly wasn't working -- try something else!!

Even if we double Clark and leave another Iowa player open, so what? Let the other players beat you - not Clark.

Hell, even if we held Clark to her season average, we win. She had 9 more points and 3 more assists than her season average.

Terrible scheme by our coaches.

Van Lith cost us the game, but not because she couldn't guard Clark. She scored 9 points, had 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 turnovers while shooting 20% from the floor. She was awful. I'm not trying to be hard on her, but she was a complete non-factor in the biggest game of the year.

Flaujae Johnson guards Caitlin Clark from the tip-off to the end of the game if she doesn't get in any foul trouble along with Last Tear Poa helping her by doing a lil shadowing of Clark. Van Lith was or is too small to handle a Caitlin Clark. It was just a bad decision by Mulkey and co. to have Van Lith guard Clark. Smh

She was a non-factor during the whole tournament and you are being hard on her because she was already struggling with her game, but now she's asked to guard Caitlin Clark. She's what - 5'7 and Clark is 6 feet, and Clark is always in motion to get the ball. There's no way in hell Van Lith was gonna stop her, and she's exhausting herself in the process which takes a toll on her game even more. It was just a bad decision by Mulkey and co. to have her guard Clark.

We didn’t really defend Clark last year. We were just able to make shots from the perimeter and stay out of foul trouble.

We just shot horribly last night. That’s really all there is to it

yeah, that 1 girl, I forget her name, but she already graduated. She went nuts against Iowa last season in shooting the lights out against them, she out shot Clark she was so hot. I was hoping that Flaujae Johnson would come out and have a game like that shooting wise.

I expect had they went with Flau'jae guarding her, she would have gotten quickly into foul trouble much like Poa did when she was on her.

And HVL went into the game sick, and we have no idea for how much of the playoffs she was sick. If you have to take an IV feed right before the game, which she did, it isn't going to kick in right away. Maybe they is why Kim benched her early.

And if she was that sick it might explain why she was slow on defense and her shots weren't falling. But she showed heart and gave the game everything she had. If kim had thought she had a better option, I'm sure she would have gone to it.

Thanks coach!!!

64.7% at the free throw line

A ton of missed lay-ups and missed 2nd and 3rd shot attempts (38.64% FG)

This is why LSU lost—not because HVL was guarding CC.

Jasmine Carson. She was on fire last year against Iowa in the NC game.

Both she and Kateri Poole were bombing away from the outside. We really missed them last night.

Clark should have been double teamed. The rest of the Iowa team can not beat us. If Clark has 33 points, we win. A double team could have shaved off a min. of 10 of her points.

People keep saying this that if Clark would've scored 10 less points by doubling her we win. But you do realize other people could have scored on these possessions right? Affolter had 16 points and Martin 21 for them also.

The thing about doubling a player like Clark is in the women's game they obviously aren't as quick as men. And even in the men's game they can't rotate fast enough when they double someone to prevent someone else from getting a wide open shot. That's what would've happened here as long as iowa had good spacing which they did. Doubling Clark would've just lead to someone else getting a wide open shot.

I think Clark is the type of player you just have to let her get hers because she's just going to. But don't let Affolter and Matin get 16 and 21. They got so many wide open easy baskets and that was really the difference.

was she sick all season? must've gotten IV's every game when she was at Louisville
