Sure, they can still get NIL money while in the WNBA. The question is if they would still get the national attention while playing in the WNBA that they receive in college. For almost all players, the answer is no.

It doesn’t matter who is paying it. She is still making more money

They lose $10 million a year and wouldn't exist without the NBA propping them up. LSU averaged around 12,000 a game this year, NBA less than 1000. NIL money is about eyeballs. No eyeballs less money.

It's kind of funny that people think players getting big NIL deals, especially if they are getting it from a national brand, will transition to the WNBA and not get any money from advertisers or for selling memorabilia.

Mid-level players may do better staying for NIL. Top-level players would be a different story I would think.

Well, Reese makes money because of her personality on a big platform. The platform will be smaller in the W and she probably won’t be the star player she is now. She’s not going to suddenly quit making money off social media, but she’s going to slowly lose relevancy. She will be less popular in 5 years than she is now. It doesn’t matter if she believes this or not. Nobody believes they will come back down to earth when they are at the top.

I agree...women's college basketball has many more fans than a WNBA team does. Unless you're a relative of the player that moved on do you think they have the following they did while in college? No way!
And that's why the salaries are so low in comparison to the NBA. It's all about what sells....

None of this story is true

NCAA women’s team scrimmage against men’s intramural players all the time. I don’t know if this guy is telling the truth, but the intramural teams win the majority of the time.

I played against Louisiana Tech’s women’s team in college several times. They are talented players, but the size and athletic difference makes it completely unfair.

I disagree. I think the Staley/Mulkey Rivalry will keep College WBB interesting. It's also nice that if I do watch women's ball I can actually get to know the players since they stay longer than 1 season.

and I previously told the story of playing against Joyce Walker in a pickup game in the Field House back in the 80s. She was an All-American and one of the best to ever play at LSU, and I was merely a short former
high school point guard. She was better than I thought, but I still got the best of her.

This isn't a brag, just a story to show that a decent high school male is better than the best college female.

Every rational person knows this.

NCAA WBB gets 10x the eyeballs that the WNBA gets. For example, Game 4 of the 2023 WNBA Finals between the Las Vegas Aces and N.Y. Liberty averaged 889,000 viewers, which is the most-watched WNBA Games 4 Finals on record.

Last night, LSU/Iowa got (initial reports) 9.9 million eyeballs.

Until that changes - NCAA WBB is the pinnacle earning potential for a woman playing basketball...

which is why Angel will be back at LSU next year!!!!!!!

Was also true at LSU under Pokey Chapman when LSU was going to 5 straight Final Fours. Frat team was regularly the practice team and regularly beat the girls.

People only watch because they have a built in rooting interest due to their school. Most posters on this board are only watching because LSU made it this far. 95% of them won't be watching the women's final 4. 99.9% of them won't ever watch these same players that went to their school in a WNBA game.

There has definitely been adds featuring WNBA players. I've spotted a couple, but you likely just didn't recognize them. Not a dig btw.

Her popularity score, or whatever these companies use to determine people’s value, is going to plummet. The end of the line for women’s sports (outside tennis or golf) is college. Fans will cheer for their school no matter what. Plus the passion of college kids playing for enjoyment and pride (I realize this is debatable now because of NIL) far outweighs watching pro events.

I could not name two active WNBA players. I couldn’t tell you what teams are good or bad. I’ve never watched a game in my life. These girls are moronic for not staying in college as long as they can. They’ll be a fart in the wind once they leave school. Caitlin Clark is really their only hope since she plays like a mediocre dude playing against girls. She could probably move the WNBA needle a little bit, but not nearly as much as she does at Iowa. She’d also be an idiot to turn down the Big 3 offer for the same reason. Once they lose their popularity from the novelty of college sports fandom, that’s a wrap on their relevancy. No matter how many times ESPN forces the homepage to be covered in WNBA news. Nobody gives a shite about the WNBA and nobody ever will
