This guy is a douchebag and frick him (My opinion is that his opinion SUCKS). He's also notably sexist against men and I'm ignoring his obvious love of EVs.

[quote]For old-school connoisseurs of the automobile — usually men — driving means operating a beloved vehicle by touch, with three pedals underfoot and a shift stick at hand.
In Europe, this clientele is responsible for a good deal of the moaning about manual transmission’s demise. And perhaps nowhere is it louder than in Germany, the home of Porsche, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz.
He affectionately describes the stick shift’s smooth knob nestled in his palm. (Sigmund Freud would have had no trouble deducing the grounds for this allure.)
Well, Zen or not, the day of manual transmissions is speeding to an end — and this layman is shedding no tears.
It’s not just that I cringe at the grating screech of a botched downshift, that high-pitched sequel worse than fingernails across a chalkboard. The sound upbraids and shames me for having wronged the drivetrain. But this obviously never happens to alpha men, the kind who love their engines and coax them to purr.

Of course the queer writers at CNN see dicks everywhere.

Who comes up with this garbage writing?

How about instead, we hasten the demise of antagonistic click-bait articles and the desperate-to-be-relevant narcissistic “journalists” who write them.

This guy is full of shite. Both my wife and sister refuse to drive automatics and have no problem with downshifts. But maybe it's just the "knob in their hands". Believe me, in Germany the manual transmission is alive and well.

But for those aficionados who really can’t go without a clutch and gear shifter, Toyota is planning a realistic-feeling fake manual transmission for some EV models.
It serves no purpose whatsoever — save to comfort bruised egos
Ego....WTF. some people like myself just have fun driving manuals.

Bring it back with hand-cranked windows, manual locks, cloth seats, a radio that’s simply a USB dock + 3.5mm out in a single cab truck for around $15-20K, and I’ll run that truck to 200,000 miles making it very uneconomical to continue production.

I just bought a 2024 MINI Cooper JCW with a six speed manual. In 2025, no more manual MINIs. I had to get one before they are gone. Kind of a shame that manuals are going away almost entirely. I've always enjoyed driving them. I get it, new automatics are great, they shift faster and better than a stick, blah, blah, blah. That doesn't make them more fun to drive. A stick shift also has the extra benefit of acting as an anti-theft device.

What a flaming fig, automotive enthusiasts both male and female love manual vehicles.

The pushback on manuals is so weird to me.

Looking for a used Jeep right and will only settle for a stick shift

Glad to see CNN is consistent. They manage to be wrong about everything.

The manual trans is the norm anywhere but North America.

Must not be anything going on worth covering, so let’s write an article about “I don’t like something; therefore, they must to stop making it.
