There are a lot of people who can’t afford to fix the things that keep their cars from passing inspection.
People can’t afford to have working brake lights or windshield wiper?
I drive for a over a decade with a fricked up windshield and always got a sticker

I think he means some of the other dumb checkpoints like if your check engine light is on technically you’re not supposed to pass inspection.

Best one I’ve seen in awhile.

This place is slipping page 2 and nobody has given the odds as 350 to 1?

Looked at, lets say, 10 cars in passing as I went into a restaurant the other day. Something like 6-7 of them were out of compliance with this current law, either being expired (in some cases, by more than a year!), or just no sticker at all/damaged sticker that wasn't legible.
Plainly, no one cares as it is.

They don’t check that

It would take $14 million from the budget and will be voted on by Legislature soon.
No way they given that revenue source up!
They cant continue to grow the government headcount and give raises to those people without this type of revenue.
It will never go away.
Certain hard-hit areas of Louisiana have a higher headcount now than they did pre-covid with a 5% or greater population decrease over that same time period.
Just think about that for a second.
If your population decreases it would not make sense to hire more parish, state or DOTD employees.
Also, another massive waste no one pays attention to is the cost of paper and the fact most governments wont go to electronic files. I had the pleasure of seeing a set of books in the wonderful state of Louisiana where they are spending thousands upon thousands upon thousands monthly to print check stubs.
Yes, printing check stubs is still a thing. They wouldnt even consider moving to online paystubs, which was baffling to say the least as someone just watching.

I just got a new one that expires in 2026. Hopefully last one I’ll ever need

The small crack in the windshield really aggravates me. Instead of paying just $18 I have to buy a new windshield for 6-700 just to pass
And then get a new crack in your new windshield from driving on roads with debris all over the place.

If they do they will just find a way to take even more from somewhere else.

I think the LSP has found an alternative to collecting revenue from inspection stickers through the tax on vapes.
This.

Watching the local news last nite they mentioned if the bill passed it would bring up another issue. Where would the money come from to replace the inspection sticker funds.
Easier for the lawmakers to just vote down this bill and not have to work on replacing the funds. So I doubt it passes.
As others have mentioned if you live in one of the 5 parishes mandated for emission testing you'd still need to get that inspected each year anyway.

Or people driving in front of you in improperly secured loads on trailers and dumptrucks. They never crack down on the source of the problem.

I just recently had my inspection sticker renewed. It gets more difficult every year. Extremely long lines.

I read where regardless in many parishes they will still have to have their emissions checked as part of the Clean Air Act.

It’s pathetic that our state depends on that pittance of funds. In the grand scheme that doesn’t seem like a whole lot.
