Gope gonna gope!

quote:

McConnell was one of several senators who spoke during an hour-and-a-half conference meeting, which was called by conservative Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.). McConnell spoke against imposing term limits for the top GOP position, calling it a bad idea, according to two sources in the room. It’s something the [sic] has opposed in the past. McConnell said term limits would weaken the leader’s power to do their job and potentially hurt fundraising.

"We the people" vote them in, and keep voting them in.

Blame the people.

You really believe EVERY ELECTION is fair and balanced?

Zero corruption?

I don’t believe every election is tainted, but when it comes to key decision makers and party leaders, they will stop at nothing to keep the machine going.

WOW, carry on

The incumbent has a HUGE advantage, first of all the funds from previous campaigns and additional fundraising opportunities, an established campaign with staff etc, political endorsement, name recognition, and a long arse list of other advantages. It’s almost impossible to unseat a sitting congressman, except in rare circumstances when they just cross the line and the people want them out (Liz Cheney, and hopefully Bill Cassidy).

So I don’t think it’s fair to say “we keep voting them in”

That's the most superficial response that I've read in a bit.

The best argument against term limits is that it further empowers lobbyist and the deep state by having a more naive legislative body to deal with. However, it would also probably be more difficult for them to corrupt those same rotating legislators. It is an idea whose time has come.

"We the people" do not pick the candidates, or fill their election funds, or run non-stop PAC ads against any would-be challenger. "We the people" do not have armies of lobbyists at our disposal to ensure the federal printing press keeps us flush with cash.

A "vote" is a joke. The real game is played and done before any voter goes near a poll.

I used to believe this way but with the amount of money required for a Congressional or Senate race, the incumbent has an enormous advantage over any challenger not approved by the establishment.

They are term limited every election. But people keep voting them in so it must be what they want.

Its the truth.

We get what we get because "our democracy" chooses poorly.

Is not nearly the same as

quote:

We should not be imposing rules on our leadership that the dems won't impose on theirs.

Maybe I will regret saying this, but I can't imagine politicans being more naive than they currently are.

As it is, Congressmen don't read bills, don't actually speak to their constituents, and more often, can't be bothered to show up to actually vote.

Lobbyists are completely running the show, as they completely write all the bills and provide the "talking points" to the congressmen, who do none of their own research or thought.

I just don't see how term limits would make this somehow worse.
