Do you think we see less CJ in crunch time?

Willie benching CJ for Trey was interesting. National media seems to think our best closing lineup is

Zion at PG
Herb
Ingram
Trey
Nance

This was echoed on Russilo and Simmons and the Windhorst pod.

Honestly, I think it makes sense.

Neither Trey or CJ are good defenders but at least Trey is long. Spacing wise, I'd say they're about equal.

But I get terrified of CJ over dribbling. Trey won't do that. If he's not open and doesn't drive, he usually gives it up.

I can't stand CJ back pedaling with 5 seconds on the shot clock.

If Zion continues to improve his rebounding and defensively, maybe Nance is the one who goes to the bench and we go really small.

Zion has been a beast on the boards recently (at least comparative to early season).

Personally, I think Trey is the better spacer due to the high volume he shoots and the deep 3s he takes. That being said CJ is still an overall better scorer.

I'd rather CJ in there than Trey.
If CJ isn't on the court to close games, then what's the point of him being here making $30M+/yr?
I trust CJ to hit the shot, and i trust him to get a good shot off if needed if BI or Zion can't get there's.

The ideal lineup has always wanted to be
Zion/BI/CJ/Trey/Herb but when they have played together they've been rather terrible together. I don't understand why. ANd when i say terrible, offensively they are terrible too.

34 minutes played together in 15 games, so appears to be mostly situational minutes played.
ORtg 87
DRtg 109
NETRtg of -26.6

of those 34 minutes played, 15 of them were in the 4th quarter, played over 8 games. again, seems very situational.
ORtg 100
DRtg 143.3
NETRtg -43.8

Situationally, just like we've seen the past few games.

If CJ is playing well, he's not coming out of the game, nor should we want him to.

Out of curiosity, who do you think is a better option here?

Because CJ has been much, much better than BI or Zion late in the shot clock this season.

One thing Coach Green has gotten better at is situational matchups. That'll dictate who closes. Obviously you'll have BI, Zion, and Herb for sure. The other two positions will be situational. Between CJ, TM3, Val, and Nance you prioritize what the Pels need and how they've played individually to that point.

All this is just tinkering with lineups ahead of the playoffs.

If I were a betting man I would bet we will see alot of Zion at the 5 in the playoffs depending on our matchup (especially against Clips)

I think it depends on how the game has gone, the game situation, and the matchup.

But the evidence is really compelling at this point that BI, Zion, and CJ work best when only two of the three of them are on the floor at a time.

This is what it ultimately comes down to. Come the playoffs, the smart teams will attack CJ (And to a lesser extent, Jonas) in the P&R mercilessly. There's a lot left to be desired when you watch Trey on defense, but the one thing he has is incredible height and length.

A closing 5 of Zion, Nance, BI, Trey, and Herb is ridiculously long and better suited to Willie's defensive schemes of packing the driving lanes, forcing the kick out, and hard recover to shooters.

Also, come clutch time, the sets will start out either in Zion or BI's hands. Because of this, CJ is relegated to being a spot up guy for most of the possession and that really negates his play making ability. In that case, I would rather have Trey in as a pure spot up deadeye.
