This is inaccurate. Deeds are actions. If you had actual good actions then you would not be on the path to hell. Intentions are not acts. Drug addicts intend to stop doing drugs, but they do them anyway.

It’s means on judgment day you will be judged by your actions and not your intentions.

Google says it means this:
quote:

promises and plans must be put into action, or else they are useless.

I feel it means a little something different, but can't quite articulate it.

I think it means to use the wrong actions for the right intentions or something like that.

It means people with good intentions often don;t see how they are going to screw things royally up.

Example. Forcing adults at 18 to wait till they are 21 to drink leads to more drug use and especially more binge drinking and alcohol poisoning for fear of getting caught etc.

yeah, this is how i've always interpreted it

Same here, and it's always seemed dumb as hell, like what is the alternative? Have bad intentions? Surely that is worse.

Yes.

Just one example is the federal student loan program. Hey, let's make college affordable to everyone.

All it did was put students/parents in terrible debt and raise the cost of higher education faster than the rate of inflation. Now, higher education is out of reach for many due to costs. Oh and the Biden admin is bribing student loan holders by forgiving their loans & putting the burden on all tax payers.

It was indeed a road to hell.

Intentions is the key word. It’s about inaction. “Talk is cheap”

Politically-It’s the reality of Leftism/ Progressivism/ external locus of control psychology etc. let’s try to solve something legitimate , here’s our plan, it will make everything infinitely worse, but hey it felt like we were doing the right thing. And that’s what is important, our intentions.

It’s how idealistic people with “ good intentions “ who wanted change murdered 100 million of their own people in the 20th century; in an attempt to perfect mankind. In our own lives we always do similar things on a micro level. Our good intentions can destroy us or other people if we aren’t careful. There probably isn’t a man among us who had the very best intentions and completely screwed something very dear to us up.

It means - No matter how hard you work your wife is going to run off with Jody.

She can have no job she has to go to, a big house, new car, botox/spa treatments, vacations, credit cards blah blah blah

And it still ain't enough to keep the whore from surfacing

I believe the concept is derived from the phrase “I’m from the govt and I’m here to help”

Even though someone could do harm while having good intentions, it's super dumb bc what is the alternative? If you were put in a room with 5 other people, would you rather they have good or bad intentions towards your well being?
