Lifting Shoes

The shoes that I’m currently using cause me to lean forward when squatting so I’d like to find a good shoe to wear when doing squats and deadlifts. What do y’all recommend?

That’s not the shoe causing you to lean forward. Sounds like a technique issue. Lifters will have your heel elevated higher than your normal workout shoe. Typically used for Olympic lifts like front squat, snatch and cleans. For deadlifts, you want something completely opposite. Chuck Taylors work nice. Check out some CrossFit shoes. That’s your best compromise between the two

Recommend working on your form and not looking for a shoe to fix your form ....

I just wear my normal Brooks for squats (front, back, goblet, etc). For deadlifts, I prefer to be barefoot. I don't know why, but barefoot (just socks) makes me feel much more planted when pulling. I tried squats barefooted and just didn't like it at all.

Wrestling shoes are awesome to do deads and squats in. About the closest you will get to wearing no shoes.

Gotta know what the hell shoe you are wearing now. Do people even read what they post before hitting submit? Shoes don't make you lean forward, that's what ankles are for, at least that's what mine do.
Don't wear shoes when you deadlift, wear a pair of slides to the gym like a proper weightlifting goon, put on yer "lifting shoes" when you need to wear "lifting shoes", which is probably for everything except deadlift. When you deadlift keep your slides on until you actually lift, kick em off, pull, slide em back on. Don't make eye contact with any gym staff, if they say something, just mumble back to them about yer deadlift slippers.
Or you can get wrestling shoes or something like NB minimus, they're discontinued but you can buy some fricked up ones from ebay, they're just for deadlifting so it won't matter. Chuck Taylors work wonderfully as a "Does It All" shoe, I lifted in Chucks for years, and you can wear em to the GWAR show after you workout. They're just that cool.

I have the same problem, for me I believe it’s an ankle mobility issue and not a shoe issue.
I’m about to switch over to more serious powerlifting, was more Hybrid (Hyrox) training prior.
I’m going to focus on ankle mobility and am buying the book “The Squat Bible” to work on form.
With that said, I just bought my first pair of lifters - Reebok Legacy Lifter II. Got a great deal, so went with these.
I don’t think the shoe is going to fix my issue, but it’s probably a small part of the equation (or at least can’t hurt)

I’m currently wearing new balance shoes that were fitted for me for running. I just got back in to lifting about 2 months ago and now that I’m getting back in to heavier lifts, I notice that when I’m pushing up on my squats, the weight ends up on the front of my feet. I can feel myself going forward. If it’s form then that’s fine, I will work on that but I just figured it was, or partially, due to my shoes.

This is very common. For the most part you are relying on your quads to finish your lift. Work on glute and hamstring recruitment.
When it comes to shoes, most running/athletic shoes have a very high heel, hence why we have a dorsiflexion epidemic in this country, which can result in you driving your knees forward which puts weight on the balls of your feet. Wearing flat soled shoes will help you keep most of that weight on your heels.

Don’t squat in running shoes. That’s the first issue. Get some Chucks, Nanos, Metcons, or No Bulls. Stiffer sole allows better grounding.
When squatting, sink into your heels and try to point your toes upwards as coming out of the bottoms position. Should help with the weight going towards the front of your foot.

Shoes will definitely play a factor in forward lean during back squats. Try to find flat soled "zero drop" shoes.
I used to lift in old running shoes, and last year started using a pair of zero drop trail shoes I had bought years ago. Made a big difference, I feel like I can really push through my heels on the way up.

They’re lifting weight from the floor. Why do they wear shoes if it’s such a bad idea?

I use the Nike Metcon shoe. Pretty versatile and solid base so good for deadlift and squats.

Nah. Zero drop shoes like Xero or Vivo will be the closest to wearing no shoes.

IDK if it's a bad idea or not. I usually don't wear shoes at home and that's where I work out. If I went to a gym I would wear shoes.

I like my Nike Romaleos for squats.
You should work on your ankle mobility. Usually mobility is the reason your heels come off the ground on a squat.

These are my deadlift shoes but I bought them in 2015. I don’t think they sell them anymore but I just came to say that they’re awesome. Flat, wide toe box and look cool.
