why not just hire cops to patrol the campus during school hours?
Texas passed a law that mandates every public school has armed officers. I love it

Allow students to bring guns also and then instead of raising your hand you just shoot your gun into the air.

The pussies on here afraid of guns would never approve of it. Just get rid of all guns. That’s their solution.
i havent seen anyone on here that advocates for getting rid of all guns

Yes, they only want "common-sense gun legislation."

Some of the most unstable people I know are teachers

It shouldn’t fall to the teachers. There should already be security in place. This is a cheap and poor way to take responsibility off of the state.

Again, that isn't how this works at all. #constitionalcarry
It's not "constitutional carry" if you derive the right from a statute of the state legislature.

i just dont think, as it pertains to this thread, that most people want their kids going to school where the teachers are also the armed security guards considering they have a hard enough time just teaching
Posted on 3/13/24 at 12:54 pm to BilbeauTBaggins
I'm betting that 95% of them wouldn't touch a gun.

Just wait until little Timmy pushes the teacher over the edge.
I'm glad when I was in elementary school the teachers were unarmed

Why should school be different than anywhere else?
For pretty much every reason imaginable.

It would never come to that. It's not like it would be mandatory....that 65 year-old Mrs Smith nearing retirement would be ordered to arm up and "get after it."
I believe you would have a few takers- but they would be in the decided minority.
But perhaps knowing they're out there like Indians you never see would be a deterrence....After all, one of the reasons schools are sometimes targeted by murderous scum is because they're assumed to be very soft targets....sad times we live in.

Ms. Jones can't even grade her papers on time, and now we want to have her stash a glock in her skirt. Lord have mercy

I'm pro 2A and have a CC license and all that jazz but this is the answer. Maybe teachers get guns but that should be the ultimate last line of defense. Would've been nice to see the billions sent to Ukraine be invested in preventative measures such as higher tech security doors, cameras, glass, training, mental illness, etc.
Posted on 3/13/24 at 1:32 pm to BilbeauTBaggins
The bill is to allow teachers with a concealed carry permit to carry at school. They should let anyone with a CCP carry on school grounds.

This phrase is both factually inaccurate and unsupported in the constitution. Criminals don’t respect it, why should citizens who are otherwise “allowed” to carry concealed everywhere else suddenly disarm themselves when walking over the edge of that school property?

Ok, pal. Would love for you to put a number/% on teachers who are already packing at school. It's closer to zero than it is 1000, nationwide, if I had to guess.
Not very smart are you.
Doesn't your profile say your in ATL? You should definitely know better.
I'd say without even guessing that the number far exceeds 1000 nationwide.
Pal?? wtf? Is that your way of acting cool and hip?
Pro tip. It's neither. Just makes you seem like a douche.

There are about two people on our entire faculty that I would trust to carry at school
That’s probably the only two would choose to carry. Most people do not want the responsibility that comes with carrying a firearm.
“Teachers with guns” sounds scary, but we shouldn’t be driven by knee jerk emotional responses.
If we trust teachers (who we entrust with our kids every day) less than we trust the general populace, that’s a staffing problem that we should fix regardless of whether teachers are allowed to carry at school.
