I just know that there are dumbass teachers out there, and you pair that with dumbass kids, and shite will go wrong. A teacher will end up shooting a kid, and the firestorm of was it justified or not will be wild.

Or in those videos you see where the kids fight the teachers, one of the kids will take the gun and shoot the teacher.

There should likely be a limit on which schools this should be allowed in, but there likely isn't a legal way to do that.

I am a teacher and I have a lifetime CCP. I would be willing to go through extensive training by law enforcement to be able to carry my gun in school. I feel that teachers would also need to pass a phycological evaluation as well to be able to carry. In addition, teachers would need to be able to pass certain test and scenarios to make sure they would be able to handle the situation appropriately.

All these requirements and restrictions for a constitutional right granted to all citizens because they dare engage in the profession of teaching? That imaginary border over which criminals step to do harm on campus carries none of those requirements, why should it for teachers?

It would only be required so that a teacher could carry a gun in a gun free zone. Only officers of the law have that right. Outside the school , the teacher wouldn't have these requirements.

As I mentioned in another reply. Should we deputize teachers as an extension of local law enforcements with jurisdiction only in the schools? Would this help with liablities and understanding of rights?

This puts the OT brain in quite a conundrum. On one hand, it’s more people with guns. But on the other, it’s teachers who are all rapists and lazy who don’t do anything all day. What will the OTs ruling be?

Goodness, just wait until you also hear from the people that are allowed free speech, your mind will be blown.

As a teacher, I don’t think it’s a good idea at all. There are about two people on our entire faculty that I would trust to carry at school. You can give most of these women as much training as you want, and most of them are still either going to make a really bad decision with the gun or have it taken away from them by a student in a critical situation.

I'd be worried that a female teacher kept their gun in a purse and said purse was left laying on her desk and accessible to a dumbass student while the teacher was distracted or stepped out into the hallway for something. You'd have to require the teacher to keep the gun holstered on their person at all times.

Seems like this should come with extra training or certification without a doubt.

2A lovers will say this violates muh rights

According to the purists, the Second Amendment is the only legal principle in the body of law of the United States that is totally incapable of being limited in any way.

Which is of course absurd.

why not just hire cops to patrol the campus during school hours? seems pretty asinine to allow teachers to carry guns and bear that responsibility when they already complain all the time about being under paid. if you make teachers get concealed carry and firearm training, do they also get paid more for being teachers as well as cops/security guards?

because the cops would just shoot all the non-white kids.

Then no one carries, but no one outside of the school needs to know that.

The Gun Free Zone is a colossal failure, because all that does is let the crazies know there won't be anyone shooting back.

Remove the Gun Free Zone designation and nutjobs have to think twice before choosing your school.

also, if a tiny lady teacher is carrying a gun, wouldnt it be very easy for a male to overpower her and steal her gun if he wanted to?

or keep the Gun Free Zone designation and just have a cop on campus during school hours, with a gun. seems like it would also cost less and be safer than training teachers to handle and use firearms

It seems like that "privilege" would be an amalgamation between teacher and law enforcement. The only reason someone would need to carry concealed in a school would be to neutralize a violent threat in the protection of students, coworkers and self. That should come with an extra level of scrutiny just like law enforcement. Extra training, extra background checks etc.

I'm sure many schools would have one or more very willing to go through the extra effort to help protect the school. Many of these teachers view those kids as THEIR kids and would love to provide a better level of security for them.

This also makes the argument that she can easily be overpowered and raped/murdered, and a gun is the ultimate equalizer.

Ostensibly trained cops get their guns taken. So I'm going with yes.

Are there still places that don't have this?

Though in any event, that also goes both ways if the resource officer is a pathetic coward like the one in Florida a few years back.

Yeah this should definitely be limited to male teachers in my opinion.
