The space camp at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center is internationally renown. It's a major attraction for kids who are interested in science, space, and engineering.

Alabama official calls for firing of transgender Space Camp employee after parent speaks out

quote:

Several Alabama politicians say they are concerned about children’s safety at Huntsville’s Space Camp after a parent complained about the presence of a transgender employee.

quote:

Clay Yarbrough of Owens Cross Roads, the father of an 11-year-old Huntsville city school student, said he became aware on Thursday evening that a Space Camp crew member is transgender.

quote:

His daughter was to attend camp in a week as part of a school exercise, he said.

“I heard that one little girl had called her parents and said this guy is in the (dorm) room and ‘I don’t feel comfortable,’” Yarbrough said.

The employee referenced by critics declined to comment Monday.

quote:

“We would like to assure parents, teachers, and the public that the safety and security of Space Camp students is our number one priority. Any allegations of misconduct are taken very seriously. We are working to determine the facts in this case, after which we will take appropriate action,” a statement from the Space and Rocket Center on Monday read.

quote:

“Additionally, staff sleep in separate rooms from students and use separate bathroom facilities. We also provide 24-hour onsite security including round-the-clock video surveillance, regular foot and vehicle patrols, and controlled campus and building access,” the center said.

“We are an apolitical organization with no social agenda. Our singular mission is to inspire and educate.”

quote:

“It is imperative that Space Camp remains a safe place for children and young people,” Tuberville said. “I urge the Space and Rocket Center to ensure that its reputation as a world-renowned camp remains untarnished by the progressive agenda of today,” Tuberville said.

quote:

Yarbrough said he called Space Camp on Friday and asked questions of Space Camp Vice President Robin Soprano.

“She said, ‘I can assure you that your kid’s safety is my number one priority, and no males are allowed in female dorms, and no females are allowed in male dorms.’ So I asked, do you allow transgenders in?”

quote:

Yarbrough said Soprano “dodged” several additional questions, but finally told him that a trans female was allowed on the dorm hallways, and the dorm rooms are not locked.

Yarbrough said he questioned Soprano about whether the crew member would be alone with the young people attending the camp.

“She just kind of set there for a minute, and then said to me, ‘You’re sure throwing out a lot of hypotheticals.’”

quote:

Yarbrough said he was shocked by the “garbage” he saw on the employee’s social accounts. AL.com has not independently verified whether the social media accounts in question belong to a Space Camp crew member.

“Are you not vetting your people? You find that instantly. It takes five minutes to find what we found on Twitter. I’m aggravated I didn’t find out beforehand,” Yarbrough said.

He said he plans to withdraw his daughter from Space Camp and does not think it is appropriate if someone born male is alone with girls in a camp setting.

I’m pretty sure that was the wrong way to answer the father of an 11 year old girl

I knew it was a matter of time before this was posted. It’s even worse. The boy/girl’s social media posts are full of trans crap.

This story is actually fairly entertaining. Clay's Facebook is wide open, and he makes zero apologies for his views despite the media attention.

Here's Clay, an ole baw (who has a pretty wife):

Here's Molly, the camp counselor:

And a few of her social media posts:

I've worked with several youth programs. #1 rule for youth protection is always never be alone with any of the youth at any time for any reason. I can't imagine any youth serving organization not having the same rules for liability reasons.

So we allow young, mentally ill people to serve as counselors to the children.

Well, that should make everyone feel at ease.

May just be wishful thinking but there seems to be more and more pushback happening. Just need more people in there situations to call out the insanity and likely 90% of the population will agree with you. There will be some very vocal detractors but I still think they’re the absolute minority in reality.

I always wanted to go to that camp when i was a kid, but my parents weren't spending the money to send me there.

I wanted to send my kid there until we went make a trip there last summer for a tour.
Walking around there it felt like they were doing their best to ignore anything white male from Nasa that they could. There was women in space crap everywhere and diversity crap everywhere as well, just in your face with it. rainbow gay shite in the gift shop. It just seemed odd how much of it there was. Normally I just ignore it or simply take it for what it is. I don't mind reading about something signficant someone did, regardless if it's a woman or black person or whatever. who cares. I"m interested to learn about new things.

Space camp was going on at that time and seeing what most of the counselors looked like made my decision really easy that my kid wasn't going there.

I'll aslo add that the vast majority of the campers we saw walking around looked miserable to be there. Even my kids noticed it.

These people need mental help. I hope the pendulum swings hard in our favor very soon. And I hope this space camp gets all the negative publicity and backlash it deserves for allowing this freak of nature around little girls.

So a few people posted on Facebook and now that’s extrapolated to everyone in north Alabama feels the same.

Journalism fricking sucks.

More than trannies at space camp.

According to the page below, he identified as "Trans-femme intersex non-binary", which mean he is neither male or female.

Thus, based on the quote above, he should not be allowed in either the male or female dorms.

BTW, space camp sucks. My kids' school used to go every year, but we never went.
